It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

Crazy how far Sunderland have fallen over the last 5 years. I remember when they were a PL team for a long time! Didn't realize they'd tumbled to League One. Crazy they get a Netflix doc and then shoot straight for the bottom of the barrel

They were such a disfunctional club for so long, even in the Premier League. They spent years just surviving and almost like a zombie club with little investment or prospect of hope of better days. It felt almost inevitable that this would happen once they fell out.

Sunderland and Newcastle are weird clubs. Attract huge support but in a depressed area of the country so the big stars don't want to live there cos it's so grim. Also, dysfunctional ownership doesn't help.

Definitely remember them being bottom tier almost every year but jeez!! Crazy

Now I really wanna watch this documentary

I’ve been making my way through this list.

A lot of them are very modern. Mostly good. Not so much a fan of the dressing room fly on the wall ones personally.

The Bobby Robson documentary is excellent.

There is one called three kings on Busby, Shankly and Stein that is a must. In fact anything on those three extraordinary men who came from mining villages in a very small area in the west of Scotland is well worth seeing.

I believe in miracles - about the Forest team that conquered Europe is fantastic.

Maradona, of course.

If you can get one on George Best they’re all entertaining.

Take the ball, pass the ball - on peps great Barca team

Also for boojy!

1989 - the documentary of the arsenal team who had to go to anfield away against a great Liverpool team and win 2-0 in the last game of the season to win the title. That one is fantastic.

Radom Liverpool fact. Anfield was originally Everton’s ground and they won their first league title there. They felt the landlord’s were taking the piss with the rent and built Goodison for themselves. The landlords were left with an empty stadium and set up Liverpool to make use of it!
I actually did know this! I read an article about it, lol.

One I forgot to add on was the Jack Charlton one from a few years ago. It’s exceptional. Deals both with the dementia that killed him, caused by heading the ball with his career which in itself is facinating. From his upbringing and career in the shadow of his younger brother. He was a good international centre half who happened to be the older brother of one of England’s greatest ever players, who he had a distant relationship with and eventually was estranged from. Then the successful but unfashionable managerial career and the unlikely second act as an Irish national hero bringing the team to their first two world cups.
