It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

The shirts and paraphernalia are down to the clubs. Some go for that crap, others think it’s tempting fate on a day when it’s not already won and don’t.

The PL has 2 trophies for situations like this, the main trophy which would have been in Manchester, because they were ahead, and a back up would have been in Liverpool. As far as I’m aware the backup trophy has never been used, the team ahead has always gone on to win, closest would have been the one that I still try to forget happened.

Thanks for confirming the trophy scenario.
I even looked up the mileage between Manchester and Liverpool and thought they could helicopter the trophy over just in case. I wonder how much money Villa got to throw the game.

They famously did that in Scotland once. Celtic were leading and Motherwell got two late goals against them to draw so they had to hellicopter the trophy from Motherwell to Ibrox because Rangers won it. Also yes completely feasible, only 35 miles between the cities but there have been years where it’s be London to Liverpool, London to Manchester and Sunderland to Manchester which is probably less so. Also easier logistics to just have 2 I suppose!

Just thinking about how Leicester blew that lead to Spurs. Had they won, Arsenal probably ends up 4th. You thinking about that too @Jonathan Y
I mean, yeah absolutely, but you could "what if?" so many instances. Like Arsenal conceding that late Rodri goal vs. City, Spurs late winner at City, Spurs late winner vs. Watford, Everton's late winner to beat Arsenal, Arsenal's late winner vs. Wolves., Trossard's late winner for Brighton vs. Spurs.... there's just so many instances. That Leicester one is almost impossible if you calculated the odds of that happening with 6 seconds left or whatever it was. That game was so insane that they created an award just for that game

Yeah you win or lose, or in our case depress, over 38 games, not one.

do we know if there will be fewer international breaks? at least after the world cup? like don't have one in February & March since there was just a huge tournament and instead have league games?

I’m pretty sure the September/October/March/April breaks are still in there. There’s qualifiers for Europe to be played. And in some ways so there should, it’s a big old fuck FIFA from me over the timing and placing of this World Cup.

Edit: No October but the other three remain.

the season ends a week later than this year. Will they be able to squeeze those games in? I guess they'll figure it out.

I just watched the highlights from the City match and man, those first 2 goals were sus. Especially that second one. Not sure if Olsen was screened and couldn’t see the ball until late but I’m still trying to figure out if the keepers are tracking the ball or the player or both. And I hope that those who decided it was a good idea to attack Olsen are identified and properly banned.

Anyway, I’ve enjoyed my first season of PL action. Lots to learn still.

Suspect how? Great run and a great cross that took out the keeper leading to an easy header into an open goal? And a shot taken early, so the keeper couldn’t set himself, that was hit right in the corner?

They found the Nottingham supporter that attacked the Sheffield player so should be able to do the same.

One thing for certain, pitch invasions are likely to be discussed this summer and a few bad apples as usual may ruin it for everyone.

Also it’s beggars belief that a such a ludicrous conspiracy could be levelled at a team managed by an absolutely legendary figure in Liverpool’s history. The level of disrespect there is staggering. Not to mention that if you’re going to throw a match it’s a pretty fucking dumb idea to be 2-0 up with 25 minutes left to play.

that's insane. he's not worth 30m. Josh Sargent cost Norwich 10m and he's a worse player, so I guess that's the going rate these days for an American player
I find it interesing that Marsch gets a former player of his as I do not see him lasting with that supporter base very long at all.

From what I know about Leeds this season is that they were screwed by having such a small squad and injuries to important players. Bamford and Phillips most noticeably. Bielsa didn't want any transfers in the winter to help them out. If Marsch reinforces in a couple of areas I could see them doing better than this season. Not that 8th place finish from before, but mid-table like 12th or 13th.

I do agree that he's got a mountain to climb with the Leeds fans who still love Bielsa and didn't want him gone.

there are some bad player/family/agent decisions. This was one of them, Josh should of stayed in Germany or came to mls. If he stays at Nor "perhaps" he will do better in the Championship.

yeah I think it's the Pulisic effect on a lot of these young players who aren't anywhere close to as good as Pulisic. There's pressure on them to have a similar path. Sargent coming from Bremen, Hoppe who was at Schalke, Pefok in Switzerland, Dike who did well with Barnsley last season, Weah at Lille (although I rate him).

Aaronson is decent. Runs like crazy so it makes sense that Leeds want him. He might do okay in the PL.
