It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

Yeah. I think he’s probably a bit more mobile than Mata but very similar. I always felt we wasted mata’s best years sticking him out on the right wing.
I feel like Mata barely played at all in the past couple of seasons, no? Eriksen will probably start at least every other game. I’d be interested to see how the midfielders line up, if ETH sticks one of Bruno/Eriksen on the wings to fit both in, or just rotates. If you get FDJ in then you’d be cooking. Another season of McFred probably will still not be enough.

Mata is also a good few years older, I think he’s 34 or 35 now. I always felt he was a little too slow for a number 10, and certainly the wing slot we crowbarred him into, but that in an adventurous 4-3-3 he could have been an excellent player in the vein of his former Valencia teammate David Silva.

Erikson likely won’t play every week, it will depend upon opponent, but he’s someone who should be equally comfortable in 8 or 10 and can do a job wide in a narrower formation. Also it will be nice to have a dangerous set piece option for once too!

Yeah Eriksen has played deeper with Brentford and Inter. Not really used as a 10, more of an 8 or even deep lying playmaker. But he’s not really good defensively so I’d be interested to see how he fits in.

I think it’s one of those where it depends who you’re against. City and Liverpool? If he plays it’s as a 10 or wide. Weaker teams where with ten Hags style united are more likely have all of the ball? Likely as the more advanced of the 2 with whomever the other new midfielder turns out to be as a more adventurous sitter.

My only concern is where they would build the stadium. I’d really like to see it done away from the strip. Maybe tear down where the Lights currently play and put it there or somewhere else downtown. Hate the strip.

I assumed they'd play in Allegiant. Seeing how crazy y'all have gone for the Knights and Raiders it seemed like the logical choice.

There was an article earlier in the year that said Allegiant wouldn’t be an option because of the dimensions and that there would need to have a soccer specific stadium. Although there are 3 matches set to go there this month. I’d be disappointed if they played there. Raiders can kick rocks.

Yeah, I read that was one of the reasons for being dropped for WC consideration but they said the same about SoFi but they are making that work. No love for the Raiders huh? 😅

Another Premier League footballer arrested on suspicion of rape. Name has been withheld to protect the anonymity of the victim. 29 year old, odds on to play at the World Cup, London based club.

YIKES. My brother just emailed me about this - whatever corner of the web he's frequenting thinks it's Partey (My brother is an Arsenal fan). 29, and apparently didn't travel with Arsenal this weekend.

There are rumours firing round on the net about spurs players too. I think at this stage it’s probably best to not speculate too hard, we could all do lists of the the top 29 year old internationals it might be. It’s another pretty sad indictment of the profession though.

Of course you are right, and I immediately felt guilty/dirty about passing on baseless rumors.

Reddit was on top of this per usual. Seems like it's Partey. Hope he rots if true.

Last season it was Kane, over the season it was Lukaku, now it's Ronaldo throwing a fit. Does anyone even want to pay the wages for a 37 year old Ronaldo?

unpaywalled:

Supposedly he’s been excused this week, family stuff. But it becomes a big story next Monday when the tour starts.

It’s a pay off, once you’re big enough to exploit his image his salary is more than paid off by the money he can generate.

There are definite issues on the pitch, unless you are built around a goalscorer who does nothing else he brings goals but you also lose quite a bit on the other side.

The article says he is upset about his wages being less (as well as everyone's) since the CL bonuses aren't there this season. It's a bad look if (big IF since it could all be ITK BS) he's upset over his wages when he's on something ridiculous already and is a billionaire.
