It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

Gerard sucked with his time at LA. Henry has a pretty good run at a player and coach. The rest of those names spent which a little amount of time that they made little impact. Most teams draw around mid 20’s. With the exception of a few clubs.

Don’t forget Robbie Keane, our all time top scorer. Not the same profile but he was arguably yours, and the leagues, largest DP success, especially when taken over a period of years.

Also the announcer for this match is my favorite lol his metaphors are that of a god

I’m watching the Leeds v Leicester game. The commentator is hilarious. This is one of 2 march weeks where Amazon have all the games. Those 20 are their only games every season. This guy must be pissed. Players have their names on the shirts these days but he keeps getting them wrong…

Yea I did not forget Keane. Between him and Landon Donavan going to watch soccer was great during those years. I can’t remember seeing the Galaxy lose during his time here. He wasn’t a big draw over here unless you really knew soccer. They way he kept people coming was that he was by making the Galaxy a winning team.

Oh yeah I’m judging success by how well he played and helped the team play and the trophies, not on the individual star appeal or box office.

Not bad for the second best R Keane in 90s/00s football.

Yeah, this is exactly my (poorly made) point. The teams that have had success with designated players have either found up and comers (largely from South America) that are using it as a launch pad to Europe or 30ish year olds who have had good to very good careers, but are restless at biggish Euro clubs - Keane and one of my favorites Juan Pablo Angel being two strikers that fit this bill.

I hope for the development of the league that the late-30s stars are increasingly fewer and farther between.

I guess the big outlier at the moment is Puig, and I’m still not sure how LAG pulled off that coup. On that note, I’m really looking forward to El Trafico tonight, if I can manage to stay up.

Puig is amazing. He is just what we needed. We didn’t have a guy that could find the holes to penetrate a defense. We kept possession of the ball well. Yea I’m looking forward to the game tonight! I have to get together some materials to decorate a coworker’s door if the Galaxy win.

Yeah Keane’s “big move” to Liverpool killed him in Europe. Benitez broke something in him. He wasn’t the same player again in England even after he went back to Spurs. It meant you got him towards the end of what should have been his peak rather than after he’d gone over the hill.

I’m sure it must be difficult to hang ‘em up as an athlete, especially when you still have da passion, but at some point you either have to accept the fact that it’s over and retire on the mountain of cash you have or you allow yourself to be sold at a reasonable rate and still have the same mountain of cash.

As a result he is dropped from the squad for the Chelsea match

In his early days at United he just seemed to be an overly tricky dribbler til he matured and left for Madrid. At least there you could put up with his arrogance because he delivered. These behaviors just ruin his reputation and make him unlikable.
