Is he? That surprises me. For all his talent he seems really raw and in need of lots of games more than anything. Is that speaking more to a huge dearth of centre back quality in Germany?

Yes. There’s Hummels, Rüdiger, Süle, Schlotterbeck and then the drop off is pretty significant in quality. Basically just average Bundesliga CBs. He’s got a chance.

so he´s officially in the squad nowand hummels is not in. He´ll probably not get much playing time but it is probably to give a talented younger player some tournament feeling

I’m not surprised. The last few times I’ve seen Hummels at the top level his lack of pace has been exposed pretty ruthlessly and Germany do tend to play a high line that would exacerbate that.

yep, and given that it would be his last tournament anyway why not take one who might bring promise for the future. It´s only for 3 games anyway
