It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

my first thought was "yeah Utd get the CL spot... *checks notes* no it's Arsenal???"

March to May last year was brutal for us. You’ve triggered flashbacks of an uninspiring draw against already relegated Huddersfield and then not just losing to already relegated Cardiff 2-0, but being utterly outplayed to boot. why did you have to make me relive that 😂

oh Rio! I’d hate to say he was alone but we all got a bit giddy after that run of wins...

that said everything is better than the poisonous one, who is now sadly infecting your club, and it feels like we might finally be beginning to turn a corner after a couple of good transfer windows.

This is a goldmine. Full historical matches online streaming.

I don't like streaming things on a laptop but it may come in handy later on.

OMG this looks like a goldmine

NBC Sports has several classic EPL games on their app. I ended up watching a 2009 Manchester Derby, Ended up a 4-3 thriller. This United team, which I never really watched a full game under SAF was something else. Absolute class and quality all over the pitch. Also City look pretty terrible but somehow made it competitive.

That was the best team I’ve seen at United in its decline, Ronaldo had just left and wasn’t properly replaced because the money was used to service the Glazer debt. Rooney was outstanding that season. Two years before when the won the league and European Cup double was their peak. I do remember being very drunk and having a lot of fun watching that 4-3 and the 1-0 from later in the season (Scholes scored the winner in injury time). If you add the League cup semi final second leg we won 3 Manchester derbies after 90 minutes that season, good times.

Hmmmm... i should see if i can find the 2015 WC final anywhere. That would put a smile on my face.

I saw a preview for it and wondered if this was why it's your chosen team?

I miss soccer!!! I am going to hunt down an old US WC game. Women's. Not men's. I want to actually see well played US soccer. (Yep, i went there. lol)
Lol nope not my chosen team! But it’s a really fascinating documentary about a team that was just relegated from the highest level of football in England only to get relegated again the following season down the the 3rd tier. I definitely recommend it.

I was watching a WC match on FIFA’s YT channel yesterday. I think they had the 2019 final on there too.

Amazon prime, over here at least, have “The Story Of” and “All The Goals Of” every televised men’s World Cup. It’s eaten up a decent chunk of time this week. They also had some packages of the more recent women’s world cups.

Actually you, and you too @wokeupnew, should if you have time watch the Mexico 70 highlights if you get have the same shows on your amazon prime. I had a VHS of that as a kid and it was a major part of me falling in love with the game. That Brazil side made football into an art form.

I think that is on Amazon Prime here! If not, I’ve been making my way through Footballia on older WCs. I’ll watch some matches on there if it’s not on Amazon.

do you know of particular matches that are worth watching if it’s not on Amazon?

Anything from that 1970 World Cup with Brazil is well worth watching. In particular there was a match when they beat England, reigning champions, in the group stages that is one of the best 1-0’s you’ll ever see, two exceptional teams on the top of their game facing off against one another.

US v France quarterfinal of the 2019 WC is on fox sports right now. Just started.
Rewatching this reminds me how much of a rock star alex morgan is. I don't think she scores in this game. But she's constantly double covered and france beats the crap out of her. She takes it and it provides opportunity for others to get open. The biggest positive of the olympics being delayed is it gives alex another year to get back in shape after her pregnancy. And that's bad news for their opponents.
