It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

I watched the first ten mins of Napoli v. Juvenitus. Whoa that was boring. Does Ronaldo always play like he can't be bothered? There was one dude that had a magnificent mustache. But that as my highlight doesn't say much.

I'm not watching Man City v. Arsenal. Man City just really doesn't want to score, do they? Arsenal looks flat and outmatched.

I can tell everyone is a bit rusty. I love the BLM on the back of the shirts. It just makes it a wee bit difficult for this newbie-to-boys'-soccer to latch onto any players.

Yeah. Even when he was younger. He has no interest in general play, he’s like a shark in the way floats across the oppositions backline looking disinterested but he is really hunting for the weakest link and then comes alive and exploits it when the ball is in the last third. He’s scored 725 club and international goals in 956 games so he’s not doing too badly by it.

All the games have been really slow so far, players don’t seem to be close to match fit, that said Italian football is traditionally the slowest and most defensive of the top European leagues.

Well I saw his disinterest on full display! And I really can't with his man bun.

Awesome, so glad I chose the slowest and most defensive game as my first to embark on my "get into boys' soccer" journey. Lol

OK, be kind.

But what is Benfica? Should I find it instead of this "battle" to determine who is the rustiest team?

one of the three biggest Portuguese teams. The historic great forward Eusebio played for them. Them and Porto both have 2 European Cups each I think? @Skalap can correct me if I’m wrong there.

Thats just football right now @Teeeee it should pick up in the next couple of weeks, I’m watching the English games tonight and it’s really staccato and slow and it’s normally the fastest league by a distance.

Asking what is Benfica is the same as asking who is Paula Abdul.

Benfica is not playing on Friday.

No another team in Red is 😉

Yeah Benfica stopped Real Madrid serie in the early years of the Champions League and won 2 UCL in 1961 and 62 (they then lost 5 finals, a record, in 63, 65, 68, 88 and 90). They now are a medium European team even though they always compete with Porto for the Portuguese championship. A few years ago they lost another two European finals in 2013 and 14.

I have a DVD of the 68 final 😂

Goal line technology already shocking in this game. I’d rather Sheffield not get three points so I’m not really complaining

But how was this not given?

They just discussed this during the Man City half time. Admitted it should have been a goal and apologized.

Still unsure why VAR wasn't utilized.

Don't need to pour salt into open wounds. Jokes aside, Benfica was one of the best team when football was just a sport. Now there is too much money and Benfica can't compete. Every year they built a great team and have to sell half the players to European giants a the end of the championship.

yeah it’s weird, they’re supposed to tell the ref that it looks like there is an error and they want to review it. It seems like the VAR itself decided not to get involved, maybe someone had gone out to have a pee or put the kettle on 😂

Hahaha that was our first and the big emotional one 10 years after the Busby Babes had been wiped out in the Munich air disaster. And yeah money has completely distorted the game, it’s nigh on impossible for a club from a league in a smaller country to compete at European level.
