It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

yeah it’s weird, they’re supposed to tell the ref that it looks like there is an error and they want to review it. It seems like the VAR itself decided not to get involved, maybe someone had gone out to have a pee or put the kettle on 😂

That was a very glaring error. The ball was all the way across the line. The goalie took it in there with him. HE was entirely across the line.

This is akin to the Saints pass-interference no call. DRAMA!!!!!!!!!!!

Hugely, I can see why the Ref didn't give it given the angle and his watch not buzzing but yeah the VAR not getting involved was scandalous. It was a bloody terrible game though, the arsenal city one is at a much better standard!

Hahaha that was our first and the big emotional one 10 years after the Busby Babes had been wiped out in the Munich air disaster. And yeah money has completely distorted the game, it’s nigh on impossible for a club from a league in a smaller country to compete at European level.

Yeah out of big five only one team won the UCL: Porto in 2004. All this money is killing football IMO.

Well I can tell you who isn't going to be my favorite player: David Luiz.

I'm guessing he doesn't usually play this poorly, or he wouldn't be playing in the premier league. But he had a horrible game. He is responsible for both Man City goals.

Even before that it was more likely that the winner came from England, Italy, Spain or Bayern. A mixture of the money the big leagues are bringing in and Financial Fair Play mean that it’s even down to the likelihood of a winner coming from outside a group of about 12 clubs being slim.

Oh no he’s a useless defender who teams keep buying because he can be wonderful on the ball. He’s been knocking about the premier league for the best part of a decade...

See, David Luiz started his career in Europe at Benfica. He was a great player at this time. Benfica sold him to Chelsea 24Mio€ + a player named Matic. A few years after, Benfica sold Matic to... Chelsea for a few 25Mio€.

And now matic spends his days kicking people and passing the ball to the opposition for another team that wears red 😂

Maybe it’s the couple of glasses of red but I’m not really noticing the lack of crowd anymore and the fake noise is doing a job of creating an atmosphere.

Im still on the stadium sound and for the first time I didn’t mind the silence. Maybe that’s just because city would be good to watch even in training!

I watched some of that dull as shit game with Ronaldo without crowd sound. I wonder if that is partly why it was so dull for me. It was like watching a scrimmage.

I'm watching this City (is that what I should say instead of Man City) v Arsenal game with crowd sound. I like it more with crowd sound. The "we are not really here" banners are odd to me.

Yeah that Milan/Juventus game from last Friday was boring as hell. Italian football is not always the most exciting.

EDIT: Oh wait! There’s a cup game happening right now. Yeah still holds true. I think Ronaldo is past it.

Ouch! That was a wipeout! Hope the lad is ok!

I feel bad for yelling, STOP FLOPPING at the screen right before it was clear he was really hurt.

I mean, Chicken Little left an impression on me. What can I say.

And why are these guys pulling their jerseys up over their noses to chat with each other as if they weren't huffing and puffing up and down the field, discarding their droplets onto each other this whole time.

That’s more so you can’t see what they are saying to each other. They were doing that pre COVID.

What is wrong with Arsenal?

Who are the Tom Bradys of this league (highly talented but pretty universally hated)? Which teams are the Cowboys (full of themselves but not much to back it up anymore)?

That was my team, Manchester United, we won so much under Fergie that there’s probably still a hangover even though it’s now 7 years since we won the league.

Chelsea’s success wasn’t beloved as it was bankrolled by an oligarch, Mourinho was the architect and they were a team full of horrible people that played deeply cynical, but winning football.

City should have taken that mantle seeing as they are a sport washing project for a terrible Middle Eastern regime and they have spent over a billion to get to the top but people don’t hate them because they play such wonderful football and because their fans kinda deserve the success seeing as they used to support a team previously had a proud history of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory...

everyone loves Liverpool now because of the gurning Klopp and them going for their first title in 30 years but back in the day they were as hated as United are now because they were even more ridiculously successful in the 70s and 80s that United were in the 90s and 00s.

Good questions!

So Cowboys are “America’s team” so who is the establishment team in England? Man Utd?

Most hated? Chelsea?
