It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

And then in a few hours, we're watching Tottenham v. Man U?

And then tomorrow all kinds of games happen and I'm not sure if I can keep up. Which ones are the good ones?

Yeah Spurs v Man United (we really don’t like the name Man U 😂).

I bought a 6 pack of beer on the way home so I’m all set for it!

Oh dang, @Joe Mac - what happened to the dude that got laid out and taken off on a stretcher in that game a few days ago? I don't recall seeing anything else about an injury.

He was up and about and talking to everyone in the dressing room afterwards supposedly, but still needed to go to the hospital for a few tests. It was precautionary with all the new concussion protocols in place.

Pure white hot hatred of the extremely irrational type at the mere mention of the club...
Oh dear. Why?

Are they the Patriots/Yankees/Red Sox of the league? (All of those teams are universally hated by everyone except their fans because their fans are obnoxious - and racist - and because those teams just are the worst).

In every sport if you follow a team they have that other team. For United they are that other team, and visa versa.

Both my team, and them, are the equivalent, the two huge super successful teams. The two cities are only 35 miles apart and were traditionally rivals before competitive sport.

OK, gotcha. Yep, as a NOLA Saints fan, the Atlanta Falcons are extremely yucky to me. So you and I would have gentlemanly trash talking galore if I were to join my bro in supporting Liverpool? This is intriguing.

28 - 3. AMIRITE????? @nolalady will understand the meaning of those numbers.

If that was the case you might start talking about 6-3 in European cups and I’m might go on about 20-18 in league titles and you might cringingly start ending all your post YNWA (You’ll Never Walk Alone) and I might start sharing pics like this:

yeah it's a nice sentiment but very cringe from some Liverpool fans.

I also forget how close/small the distance is from Manchester to Liverpool. For some reason I always think of Manchester being more central, like where Sheffield is, but it's very close to the coast.

Yeah Manchester is slightly just to the north east of Liverpool. The two had a bit of a symbiotic relationship during the industrial revolution when they laid claim to being the two richest cities in the world. Manchester made, Liverpool trade was a saying and there’s been a big rivalry between the cities ever since Manchester mill owners tried to cut liverpool out of the picture by building a canal big enough to carry a transatlantic ship from Manchester direct to the sea. Now they have the two most successful teams in English league football and if you include Everton 3 of the 4 most successful.

Huh!!? Am I missing something or is this statement a joke. (Says the American that doesn't know the Pre-Premier league history that well).

Absolutely serious. Top 6: Manchester United 20 titles; Liverpool 18; Arsenal 13; Everton 9; Aston Villa 7; Manchester City/Chelsea/Sunderland 6. Of those only United, Arsenal, city and Chelsea have won titles in the post 1992 Premier League era. Everton and Arsenal are the only two teams to never have been relegated from the top flight.
