It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

Hahaha! Dubai and Saudi aren’t exactly always the best of mates!

True but they share the same love for petrodollars.
Anyway, it looks to me that a deal is already closed so every party wins.
Let's see what happens in the next days.
Crazy numbers anyway, he would be receiving the minimum French wage every minute o_O

There is a rumour that PSG just want him out if he doesn’t sign and would potentially let him go on loan to another European club that just covers his wages.

There are 2 or 3 premier league big boys who might bite to give them another year to plan for their next marquee centre forward. The biggest ones I’ve seen are Spurs looking to replace Kane or Utd looking to buy a year until Kane is on a free and more options appear on the market.

if he accepts it, he is hated, if he stays and gets paid to hardly play, he is hated

If I was him I would just take the bag and forget the chance of a real legacy. Tarnished already

Unless he says he only wants to go to the prem so he can show the world he is the best striker by beating Halaand, Kane, Nunez, etc. as he helps Arsenal return to glory. Then he would be ok i think

PSG accepting the bid is a long way from him accepting the offer. I mean he’s going to Madrid next summer one way or another. That means he won’t accept the deal. I’ll eat my hat if he signs for a Saudi team.

i would say that Madrid should be ashamed to sign such a man child after these antics I'd say hell no....but money talks and he'd bring in a ton for them.

I think it’s only fair you let me pick the hat.

What antics? He has a contract, the option for the extra year is his, not PSG’s. He is willing to play and see it out. They are refusing to let him to save face.

He is absolutely a man child but the fault here is 1,000,000% PSG’s. What kind of an idiot gives the player the option rather than reserving it for the club?

he's been saying/hinting at wanting to leave PSG for a couple of years now. There are memes every season of Mbappe to leave PSG. The option is for him to stay until 2025 right? So after this season ends....However, it sounded like all summer he was doing whatever he could to create issues with management by not communicating or responding to their requests. If a club is paying me a premium the least I will do is be cordial until it is actually time to leave. Not go around behind closed doors trying to get a deal done a year ahead of time. Focus on your final year of your commitment then worry about 2024 season in May....yea PSG is silly but also Mbappe is a douchebag

EDIT: I guess what bothers me is, PSG want to get paid, Madrid want him for free and he wants Madrid so he is making it easy for Madrid in my opinion....instead of being loyal to PSG who has made you one of the richest players in the world at 24 years young

Hmmm I don’t know. I think he wanted to leave last summer but the pressure put on him was immense and he signed a contract. He never intended to exercise the option and if PSG genuinely thought he would stay until 2025, or that he’d extend and go in 2024 for a fee, they were fools.

To emphasise the point he was publicly called to a meeting about his future with the fucking President of France. Now if you want one of the single worst human beings on planet earth there he is, Emmanuel, married his mother, Macron. Since when have you ever heard of the head of state personally calling a player to a meeting to remain in the country?

His contract is until next summer unless he, and no one else, decides otherwise. He doesn’t need to communicate that decision to PSG at all unless he wants to extend it. If he doesn’t he is perfectly at liberty to run it down. I don’t judge him for that at all. PSG threatening restriction of trade is outrageous and in any other workplace we’d be up in arms about it.

I have lots of issues with him but very little over this. He is a dick because he demands preferential treatment on the pitch and undermined managers and team mates. On this he has done nothing wrong.

I think my edit is really what I was trying to say....Yea I agree PSG looks insane for threatening him to give them the answers they are looking for, but if he doesn't want to play there why not work together to get out and play where you really want to play....Like there could of been a co-effort from both sides? but maybe not...idk, me a decent human (id like to think) with only a semi-cold heart would be cool with the club that made me the highest paid player at such a young age. Maybe that's just my middle class way of thinking tho....Don't burn your old employers/bridges cuz u may need references or to come back one day lmao

I suppose there are a few different factors at play.

One, since when have football clubs ever been loyal to players? If he sustained a career ending injury in the last year of his contract how loyal would PSG be to him?

Two, it takes a different type of person to make it to that elite level of football. They put their own career first always. Sacrificing a lot personally and always making sure they are ahead of their playing peers. That drive doesn’t necessarily lend itself to gratitude. Look at even Messi trying to force his way out of Barca one summer and then crying that they couldn’t afford to keep him the next.

Three, they aren’t in the majority of cases middle class. Most footballers come from working class, or lower, backgrounds. It’s a short career and they often have extended families to support. Also they see what clubs make off them and want their percentage.

I also think, that for better or worse, we support clubs and will often irrationally take more offence to slights at our club ahead of looking closely at how they treat their employees.

i was saying my middle class mentality always has me being nice to my employers in the past....even when i was on the way out just in case i needed a favor down the road lol I never burn bridges with my old bosses

but yea I get it...you are correct. I can't compare a player of that levels mentality nor do I know what happens behind closed doors of these clubs...I just wish everyone got what they want including Mbappe to Arsenal

I just watched the highlights of the United Arsenal friendly. Already gave props to United for making Arteta's experiments look dumb BUT I totally missed the fidget spinner Martinez stepping all over Saka's feet! LEAVE THE STAR BOY ALONE ITS PRESEASON FFS!
