It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

If you asked me what europa league group b will look like after match two...I would have said the opposite of what it actually is lol

I think the other thing to say is de Gea got a lot of criticism in his first 18 month. For being too young, too weak, too easily bullied. English football hadnt fully become what it is now and dropping crosses on top of a keeper and big lads charging was still a a very legitimate tactic. He absolutely wasn’t lauded for his start and Fergie took a lot of criticism for signing a sallow kid to replace a keeper like van der Saar who was both 41 and a bit of a legend. He was in an out of the team a bit as an adaptation process.

So defending a lad in his prime because of his start being the same as a kid who still got criticised heavily is an actually pretty damning criticism of him by implication.

yeah it's crazy to think how long De Gea was at United. He's still only 32! which is like the prime years for a GK

Yeah for sure. Lots of things surrounding de Gea going make me sad. He overcame the early years when he was a bit too young a weak and he always seemed like a really nice lad who cared about united. He was also the last league title winner left in the first team (Phil Jones was still at the club but yeah).

His time was definitely approaching its end, the game has changed and passed him by at the very top level. The way he left just leaves a bad taste in my mouth and it feels like we’re signed a keeper off a champions league final and, again, because the manager had him at Ajax and he’s just not up to it. Where was the scouting teams list of young goalkeepers? It’s a bit like when Pep signed Bravo in his first year.
