It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

Bizarre. You couldn’t tell on the line out and it’s not a foul but I have no idea how Gordon can possibly be considered to be onside there.

VAR must have hurt itself in confusion

To be honest though in that situation giving the goal is better than disallowing it. If it’s confusing and you can’t decide what’s right or wrong the goalscorer should get the benefit of the doubt.

I’m surprised they didn’t even deaw the lines though, if he was past the goalkeeper, which it looked like, there needs to be two defenders playing him on and it was just Gabriel.

Yup. If you removed VAR, the on field decision would be a goal with no review. It’s just VAR didn’t make the right call with the technology.

Apparently they had no way of determining the point of contact, or whether Jolinton or Gabriel played the ball first, so they had no point of reference from which to judge the offside, so benefit of the doubt to the attacker and goal is the right call.

Well boojy Arteta is now getting at least a big fine and probably a few games touchline ban there. Lost his head in the interview and press conference.
Oh well. As long as the referee in charge of the VAR gets a ban for not drawing lines on a clear offside

They couldn’t. It was done in the studio after. At no point could you determine definitely when Joelinton touched the ball to be able to pick the still to draw the lines off. It was kinda stuck between him and Gabriel and sorta spurted out.
