It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

I don’t know. I don’t think you can make that statement about Henderson yet. A year at Sheffield United is not the same as being Manchester United’s number 1. I think we’ve reached a point where de Gea has made enough fuck ups for him to deserve the opportunity to prove that.
Fair point, give Henderson a run of games to see how he copes before binning de Gea completely.

Myself and my friend who supports City all but wrote them off when they were sitting 9th back in December. Crazy how they quietly turned things around.

That late? Their games in hand have meant that they were pretty much always much closer to it than people thought. Beat spurs and Everton next week and even someone as conservative in such things as me would find it hard not to call them.

I posted this in the political thread but decided to put it here too.

My experience with corporate America today.
This may seem trivial but I think it sums up what's wrong with USA.
Full disclosure I have lived here over 20 years.
I took today and tomorrow off work for a break and to get some stuff done.
After, I decided to go to a British themed restaurant/bar named 'The Pub' to watch some English soccer, drink some beer and eat Fish & chips. Happy to spend a couple hours there and spend $50 or so.
I walk into an almost empty bar and ask to watch the soccer which is not currently playing. I'm referred to the manager, a 21 year old girl, who happily hears the word soccer and changes all the TV's to a Panama international game I think. I politely explain that EPL is on NBCSN or Peacock and since this is a British themed pub could I watch that. I was told that corporate control the TV and she could only change it to what they dictated. I asked if they had a subscription to NBCSN and she said yes but she isn't 'allowed'.
My response was to leave, buy a 6 pack and watch at home. Ugh!

I tend to only watch football at home tbh. I only have one friend (who supports City ) who doesn't live near me who watches as well. I'm not the most outgoing person by myself to make new football friends, and my girlfriend doesn't really care about watching. There is a Spurs supporters group who would get together for some matches, but we're in the midst of a pandemic so that can't happen. The two times I've been before and watched with a group have been planned games. Since it's midday or mid-week games it's hard to say "Let's all meet here at this time every week to watch matches."

I would, however, love to have more of that culture; a group that gets together to watch matches. Or, just a place where you know the game is always going to be on to watch with some other folks who are there, regardless if you know them or not. The communal pub setting is rare in America or doesn't exist at all.

We have a group of EPL fans who used to gather at a local bar, prior to the pandemic, starting at 7am. The owner is a fan and I would go there occasionally for the camaraderie. There was even a Huddersfield fan 😆. It was pretty cool to go there and have an early beer or two then go home and have a nap!

Rangers just won the league up here. Looks like all their fans saved up their fireworks from bonfire night. They’ve been going off all afternoon (including the daylight hours, which says a lot about the sense of Rangers fans!). Thousands of fans in the city centre in total breach of Covid rules. Honestly, if our lockdown gets put back weeks because of them I’ll be livid!

Messi and Ronaldo bounced from UCL again. I would love a Dortmund PSG pairing in the next round. Haaland vs. Mbappe would be fun to see.

If Liverpool could move to the Bundesliga, all our problems might be solved. Or we play all home matches in Budapest.

I'll trade you Liverpool for Leipzig in a second.

Just say the word.
