It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

OK, I've become somewhat more versed in football over the last year. I still need someone to talk all things women's (gasp, they have women's football??) with me. Chelsea is looking pretty darn unstoppable. It's going to be Chelsea and Barca in the finals

My pick for men's Champion's League: PSG. I don't know why, I just felt it. I'm pleased Juventus is out. I am not a ronaldo fan.

I'm also still trying to figure out my teams. I'm thinking Napoli. But please tell me all the problematic things about them so i can make an informed decision.

I have a feeling for City in the Champions League. They’ve got to win it eventually under Pep surely? I’d prefer it didn’t happen but in all honesty anyone but Liverpool or Real Madrid.

I don’t know much about Italian football anymore, used to know it much better in the 90s when it was the biggest show in Europe and so the matches were bigger spectacles with all the stars and were more often on tele here. I always liked Milan and their Red and Black kits and Fiorentina because they had Batistuta and purple kits are magnificent! I don’t know much about Napoli but I like the outsiders mentality of them being from Southern Italy and of course Diego Maradonna! If you’re interested in Napoli you should watch that documentary they did on him, it was utter insanity!

I did watch a few WSL games earlier in the season but it’s competing with so much else between the records and my need to watch every United game, no matter how soporific. I was pleasantly surprised by how long United hung on at the top and how they look set to finish 3rd considering it’s only their 3rd year in existence and 2nd at the top level.

I will check out that Maradonna doc. The outsider mentality is what drew me to them (and their colors!). On top of Naples being the setting of Gomorrah (TV show). I started reading about the camorra in Naples and it led me down some rabbit holes.

United women have Casey Stoney as HC and she's amazing. I wouldn't be surprised if she eventually is chosen as the Lionesses HC. They're really lighting up the WSL. The last 2 months of this is going to be a race for those champion leagues spots. When Tobin Heath comes back from injury, United may be unstoppable. But that injury is supposedly very serious and the timing of her return may be too late to help United.

I could talk all day about women's football though.

Does Bayern get knocked out now that Lewandowski is out for 4 weeks???

Come on you reds! I hope they can keep doing well! I liked that they played their first match at Old Trafford over the men’s international break. Hopefully many more to come.

He will be a huge miss but they’re a ridiculously strong team with strength in every area. It’s one of those things they could easily do it without him but in a tight game missing such a devastating finisher could be the key detail. So really that’s just a paragraph saying 🤷🏻

Yes! Playing at Old Trafford was so cool. I wish fans could be there. I think the Spurs women also played in the big stadium? I believe it was a derby v. Arsenal. I didn't watch that game though. I like that trend and I hope it continues a ton more. Womens' sports are having a break out year!

I cannot wait for football to be back tomorrow. Absolutely loathe the international breaks.

Was really looking forward to watching some Bayern games specially to see if the Müller record would topple. Unfortunately Lewandowski hurt his ankle for Poland and is out for 4 weeks so that puts the record in jeopardy. I really wanted to see him break it. 40 goals in one season seems impossible with a shorter 32 game season but Lewy could do it. He got a hat trick in the last Bayern game (while being down to 10 men) and is sitting at 35 with 8 games, now most likely 4 for him remaining. It’s definitely doable but would be very impressive to come back from injury and pass it.
