It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

I do like Conceicao a lot, but not loving the rumored contract. Only 6 months with a further option. Management really needs to pick a coach and actually support him.
Pretty messed up that they made Fonseca answer questions after the match knowing he was sacked too.

I am sure there will be an improvement, at least on the defensive side. Just hoping us he can get us into a CL spot.

When Arsenal miss Saka for two months: “Arsenal title hopes in danger?”

When Spurs are missing half their squad: “Is Ange the right man for the job?”
When Arsenal miss Saka for at least 2 months: Who will we sign in January window because we don't have a backup aside from Sterling LOL

I think back early on in the season when combos of Odegaard, Rice, Merino, Timber, Jesus, Martinelli, Tomiyasu, Partey, Caliafiori, White and Zinchenko were hurt and am surprised we are still top 4 lol You keep going back to this same point about inuries but almost everyone, aside from Liverpool, have had several games this year where anywhere from 2 to 5 normal starters are out. Injuries are inevitable. The good teams are prepared

Luckily we have depth and were able to (decently) get through most of it, albeit a flurry of red cards that held us back didn't help either, but we are still near the top.

Aside from Gray Dragusin and Forster against Wolves yesterday, who would normally start....the one below against Chelsea from 3 weeks ago. Forster is the only non starter right? Unless you say Bissouma, but Maddison was available and came on lol

Yeah I’m starting to lose faith in Ange

That game was an outlier. Both CBs were rushed back that game and subbed off early for injury.

The issue is playing the same players for 90 three games a week. Udogie is out now. The inability to rotate has everyone looking so tired. This is the first time we haven’t had a midweek game in ages. Our bench is usually at least half full of academy kids. You cannot deny that this squad is too thin to be competitive across four competitions.

It’s not that I’m saying other teams don’t have injury concerns, but Spurs have had it worst (statistically verifiable) this year and the narrative around their struggles seems to disregard the impact it’s having.

Son is creeping up on 800 mins played in December, no one is going to look their best with that kind of demand on their body.

He’s got us into a cup semi beating both Manchester sides, in the Europa knockout stages, seem set to advance to the next round of the FA Cup…when healthy we were among the best in the league.

Adding to the squad in January and getting some players fit is going to be huge. I wouldn’t expect any manager to do much better over the last month or so with the available players.

The new format for Europe is tough. I'm surprised we are doing well in CL. We've had to start our 17 year old left back in multiple CL matches now despite investing ~ 80 million in that spot over the last two years (Timber and Calafiori) because Timber has to play RB due to Ben White being out for over a month now. We've also had to start him in PL matches but he looks great. Apparently he's going to feature for England in 2026

I get the minutes thing. We've been playing Saka 90 minutes a match, for almost every match in all comps for 3 seasons now and it finally bit us in the ass. We have no backup either cuz we've prioritized every other spot for a backup, putting all our money on him to stay fit.

in the Europa knockout stages
Almost* don't get ahead of urself! Still big matches against Hoffenheim and IF Elfsborg in a month lmao

I think we are qualified for at least the play in, but pretty assured for top 8

That Villa Brighton match was insane. Also LOL at Chelsea for trying to casually rest starters away at Ipswich thinking it'd be a kick around evening.

I won't talk about the other match haha

Hard agree on the contract and feel gutted for Fonseca the man (not Fonseca the manager). Not how our club should do business, but then again RedBird has a history of this (e.g. Maldini's departure).

In the summer, Conceição was my preferred foreign manager (still think we should've gone for Sarri, De Zerbi, or Gasperini) and I don't like that they're basically only giving him 6mos with this squad that needs a vast amount of improvement. Hopefully his managerial style and serial winner attitude comes through and proves he gets longer with new reinforcements next winter and summer.
