Grant Green - Idle Moments

In 1968 Green received a brief prison sentence for drug possession. Rather than reporting to prison, he left for a gig in California. Federal agents waited until he finished his set before arresting him and escorting him to prison for a longer sentence.

X-Ray Spex "Germfree Adolescents" (1978 EMI International; 2019 Real Gone Music reissue)
I almost twofered this one, but I don't think EMI international is much of an independent label. Definitely an underground band. The album features two songs about the London underground: Let's Submerge and Warrior in Woolworth.

Going with the funkiest kind of train, the Soul Train. Midnight Train to Georgia is on this comp for good measure.

Squirrel Bait - Skag Heaven
independent Artist (not from London), check. Song that mentions a train (Slake Train), check. An amazing piece of post-hardcore from the mid 80s.

Day 9 - "I’m not a crook."
Richard Nixon was born on this day in 1913. Play something by somebody with a criminal record.

Various Artists "Abreast Of Soul" (1969 Pompeii Records)
Playing this for Ike Turner, who received a 4 year conviction for trying to sell cocaine to an undercover police officer in 1987. By all accounts, the guy was a general prick that should have locked up well before that for his treatment of Tina.

Musically, this is a fantastic label compilation from Pompeii records featuring several tracks by Ike & Tina and Fontella Bass, among others. I picked this original copy up at the city wide garage sale in Austin TX while there in 2005. One of the things I remember from that trip is that it was fucking hot. I'm adding a bonus photo of myself, still with a full head of dark hair, showing my purchase. I carried that sheen of sweat for the entire week I was there. My genetics are definitely more attuned to cold weather.

Tina Turner deserves so much better than to be constantly connected to this monster and to have her abuse used as a punch line so often

Lil Wayne - Tha Carter III

I've been really in the mood to give this a spin so I'm glad I have this excuse to! It's crazy how years ago I used to dispise him and thought his music was everything wrong with popular music qt the time. Now this album is arguably my favorite of the 2000s lol
