Various Artists "Abreast Of Soul" (1969 Pompeii Records)
Playing this for Ike Turner, who received a 4 year conviction for trying to sell cocaine to an undercover police officer in 1987. By all accounts, the guy was a general prick that should have locked up well before that for his treatment of Tina.
Musically, this is a fantastic label compilation from Pompeii records featuring several tracks by Ike & Tina and Fontella Bass, among others. I picked this original copy up at the city wide garage sale in Austin TX while there in 2005. One of the things I remember from that trip is that it was fucking hot. I'm adding a bonus photo of myself, still with a full head of dark hair, showing my purchase. I carried that sheen of sweat for the entire week I was there. My genetics are definitely more attuned to cold weather.
