Day 8 - A Starman Waiting in the Sky
Today would have been David Bowie’s 75th birthday. Play some Bowie.

I think I'll be sticking with Bowie for the whole day...starting off with this one.

The cassette has a slight change of track order, swapping 1984 and Rebel Rebel.

Bowie – Diamond Dogs
RCA – CPK1-0576, 1974

I had that cassette. Played it constantly in my friends mom's Chevette. The speakers were so terrible that you could barely hear the vocals so it was like a karaoke tape.

Day 7 - We Miss You Neal

Steely Dan - Aja

I know I’ve mentioned this before, but I’m really not a fan of Steely Dan (argh, pick a key!) but have a number of their records because they were in the dollar bin twenty years ago. I recall Steve Gadd being pretty decent. Not sure why this is what I chose this morning, other than I think I was thinking about the song “Deja Vu” by Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz the other day. And without this challenge, I’d probably never play it otherwise.

David Bowie - Station To Station

Looks like this could have worked for the $5 day, too. Today’s also my mom’s birthday and I always thought it was funny to sing “Happy birthday David Bowie” (or sometimes “Elvis Presley”) when the cake was brought out. I remember waking up very early before going in to my ICU rotation and reading the news that he passed and I was surprised by how much of a wreck it made me. This album is my personal favorite, although “Ashes to Ashes” is a song that hits me hard for some reason

Day 8 - A Starman Waiting in the Sky

I doubt that Heathen was many people’s first Bowie album, but it was mine. A friend bought me the CD in high school because of the Pixies cover (I was/am a big fan), so this was the first Bowie album I heard front to back (I knew the radio hits of course). From here, I picked up most of his catalog on CD and later on vinyl.

Various – Lost In The Stars: The Music Of Kurt Weill

While manoeuvres are currently being made to remedy the problem, I actually have a Bowie-sized hole in my collection presently. But am excited to play this as the title covers our space theme and the music of Kurt Weill has a direct connection to Bowie as well - especially, "Alabama Song," sung here by Richard Butler of The Psychedelic Furs (pictured backstage with Bowie in '83 below.)

Day 9 - "I’m not a crook."
Richard Nixon was born on this day in 1913. Play something by somebody with a criminal record.
From Wiki "According to Cobain, he used to spray paint "God Is Gay" on pickup trucks in the Aberdeen area. Police records show that Cobain was arrested for spray painting the phrase "ain't got no how watchamacallit" on other vehicles.
