The Heliocentrics - Infinity of Now - RT exclusive limited to 200.

Oooh thats good to know, im always in the mood for a good jazz book. I picked up the 'Miles Davis: The Definitive Biography' by Ian Carr at a charity shop the other day. Cant see how they could top his Autobiography but I will give it a read anyway.
I’ll have to check that one out. The 2 by Troupe are very different. ‘Miles, the Autobiography’ definitely dishes some dirt and inside stories. I picked up both at HP books.

Just a PSA for you London based jazz fans, I thoroughly recommend heading over to Honest Jon's Coal Drop Yard shop. Its tiny but packed with gems, easily the best place I have seen for early pressings. I visited there a few months back and picked out some killer records cheap and just went back again to the same level of quality. I could of easily spent a few hundred quid in there.

The best bit is the pricing, its so so reasonable especially for london. King pressings for £20-£25. First press Ornette Coleman's (Ornette! and Ornette On Tenor) for £15 each. They have a ton of the more obscure/private press/live recordings as well which peaked my interest - I picked up a Miles Davis with Jimmy Forrest recording (looks super DIY) for £6....

EDIT: Not that this should be a guide to a good store or anything, but I just added my new purchases to discogs. Cost was dead on £40 for 2 records and 1 box set all in very good condition (the records themselves dont have even a surface mark). Median figure shows £79. Not sure how Honest Jon's price them but its certainly value for money!

Varech and Amir are amazing, and the current reissues are stellar, but also check out his most recent output that are also great, with Sand Woman reimagining somes tracks from his first trilogy :

For sure. I'm a big fan of his work, particularly with bass clarinetist Louis Sclavis and drummer Aldo Romano. I know this is a vinyl-centric website but I listen to music, not formats. That being said, there are handful of excellent CDs with Texier in the credits, including the aforementioned trio (all on Label Bleu).

How did I missed that?

Tony Allen & Hugh Masekela - Rejoice (LP)

‘Rejoice’ is a very special collaboration between Tony Allen, the legendary drummer and co-founder of Afrobeat, and Hugh Masekela, the master trumpet player of South African jazz.

Having first met in the 70s thanks to their respective close associations with Fela Kuti, the two world-renowned musicians talked for decades about making an album together. When, in 2010, their touring schedules coincided in the UK, the moment presented itself and producer Nick Gold took the opportunity to record their encounter. The unfinished sessions, consisting of all original compositions by the pair, lay in archive until after Masekela passed away in 2018. With renewed resolution, Tony Allen and Nick Gold, with the blessing and participation of Hugh Masekela’s estate, unearthed the original tapes and finished recording the album in summer 2019 at the same London studio where the original sessions had taken place.

‘Rejoice’ can be seen as the long overdue confluence of two mighty African musical rivers – a union of two free-flowing souls for whom borders, whether physical or stylistic, are things to pass through or ignore completely. According to Allen, the album deals in “a kind of South African-Nigerian swing-jazz stew”, with its roots firmly in Afrobeat. Allen and Masekela are accompanied on the record by a new generation of well-respected jazz musicians including Tom Herbert (Acoustic Ladyland / The Invisible), Joe Armon-Jones (Ezra Collective), Mutale Chashi (Kokoroko) and Steve Williamson.

Looks cool. What's the label like quality wise? I don't think I've heard of them before.

Some news directly from Muriel Grossmann, responsible for my last two albums of the year:

  • Golden Rule repress on vinyl due about March 3
  • Elevation (featuring songs from Momentum and Natural Time) should be released in April by Jazzman on vinyl and CD
  • There should be one or two new releases later this year
  • Tour dates include: Feb 29 - Copenhagen; March 6 - Ibiza; August 20 - We Out Here festival; October 9 - Church of Sound, London; October 10 - Brighton Alternative Festival with hopefully more elsewhere in the UK

Almost forgot about this release, but For My Ladies has such a lovely vibe - hotdamn.

A little reminder for all of you:
Yussef Dayes - Duality
Love Yussef, but wish he would release a proper album rather than these one or two songs at a time. That said, I just checked his Facebook and saw he's going to release an album with Tom Misch where the 2 mins i watched were amazing...

Yeeeeeeeeeeessssssssssssssssss

It's been a busy month, so I haven't been updating the N&G Jazz Reissues spreadsheet as much as I would like to. But the info should be up-to-date now.

A couple of notes:

1) In case it wasn't clear before, I don't get any kickbacks for purchases made through the spreadsheet. I pulled the spreadsheet together just so I could keep track of all the great Blue Note reissues that came out in 2019 - and I thought other folks might be interested as well.

2) I split the reissues into 2019 and 2020 tabs just to simplify things a bit.

3) I realize the 2020 SRX inventory is rather fluid right now - I'll try to monitor the Blue Note thread to keep the spreadsheet current when there are inventory changes.

4) Beyond the Tone Poets and SRX titles, there are some interesting jazz reissues coming out in 2020 (just like every year!). I've decided to add some of those titles to the spreadsheet when I hear about them. If there are other significant jazz reissues you would like me to add throughout the year - just dm me or tag me in a post.

5) Again, Target has become pretty price-competitive with Amazon - so I'm trying to use Target links whenever possible. (Their HQ is in Minneapolis - so yes, I'm being a homer.) Target has struggled with inventory at times, so when they are OOS, I'll switch back to the Amazon.

6) There are some reissues that are not showing up on Target or Amazon. I generally try to track them down on Dusty Grooves, Plaidroom or Acoustic Sounds.

Hope that helps. Peace and empty wallets in 2020!

Thank you. It really makes keeping track of everything so much easier -- and I find a few discoveries each time I review. Grateful!

Im was tempted but Ive been sick of pre-orders lately, especially if its not a limited pressing. Im just going to wait for it to be released.....unless some signed copies pop up on bandcamp or something in the UK

I am waiting for a pre-sale in France. No need to pay extra £, even more since starting tonight I may have to pay for custom fees ordering from UK.
