Jazz

Not to rub it in or anything but I’m really surprised at how much better the Target sale was this time around. I think Amazon got around having to price match on all of them because Target sold out of a lot.

Yup it would have been terrible for me if I could have bought items from Target :p On the other hand, sales will start mi-July in France so it is probably good to save some money, just in case.

Not sure if I’m crazy and missed it and sorry if it’s been mentioned, but Acoustic Sounds has a handful of Sam Records reissues in stock and they look mighty tasty. They have a live Jazz Messengers album from 1965 that looks great, and they also have some reissues from Nathan Davis that look awesome. In addition, they have Miles’ Ascenseur pour l'echafaud which is supposedly the best version of the album. It was out of stock for awhile or at least a few months ago when I looked. Good deal for us in the States. I picked the Miles title and Peace Treaty from Nathan Davis to get the free shipping.

Oh man oh man oh man!!! Cant wait for these! Out of interest, has anyone got the Steeplechase comp from Jazzman? If so, what do you think of it? I'm assuming it's great (they usually are and can't go wrong with Steeplechase)

Yes, I have the Steeplechase Spiritual Jazz 11 comp and it is fantastic. Gave it a full listen last night and have been listening to post-BN Jackie McLean all morning. Highly recommended.

Now you probably understand why I was asking about info about Dexter’s time in Copenhagen!

Ah fantastic, I have actually been spinning a lot of Jackie McLean on Steeplechase lately as well (Live At Montmartre, The Meeting with Dexter Gordon, Dr. Jackle). Love it!

Just ordered a copy of the Steeplechase comp from Jazzman. They also have the first Ill Considered back in stock, so snagged a copy of that. I don't know if anyone else was looking for a copy, but haven't seen it available for a while.

edit - showing as just 1 copy left, so probably not a re-pressing

Need to pick up that one. Last one I got was the prestige one which I loved.

For all those that need a quick entry in the new jazz scene:

Various Artists - Kaleidoscope: New Spirts Known and Unknown

Soul Jazz Records’ new album ‘Kaleidoscope – New Spirits Known and Unknown’ brings together many of the ground-breaking artists involved in the new jazz scene that has developed in the UK over the last few years. Featured artists include Matthew Halsall, Yazmin Lacey, Ill Considered, Tenderlonious, Theon Cross, Emma-Jean Thackray and many, many more in this ground-breaking release.

As well as sharing a pioneering spirit in these new artists’ approach to frontier-crossing musical boundaries, a further theme of this album is that many also share a determination to independent practices - and most of these artists’ recordings featured here are either self-published or released on independent labels. While the attention of this new wave of jazz artists has up until now has been London-based, this album shows how this movement is spread across the whole of Britain (and indeed beyond).

Oh, and by the way:
This might be a long shot, but sadly my pre-order for the new coloured Chip Wickham got cancelled because of insufficient stock.
So if anybody has an extra or doesn't feel the record, please hook me up. 😇

EDIT: Reached out to the label and got a hint to a store in Madrid. Now I'm a happy boy. Thank you Lovemonk! 🙏

Oh no! I ended up getting the regular black variant because the color variant was so expensive to ship to the US. I had a Juno credit so I ordered two of Chip’s albums and they were something like $12 each.

AS is my go to for Sam records in the US. Some of the Nathan Davis albums just came out as did the Blakey. I have been eye balling them...will probably pull the trigger eventually if they still are in stock.

Speaking of Steeplechase, does anyone have experience with what seems to be a reissue series from them the past few years? I’m looking for a copy of No Problem by Chet Baker Trio and there was a repress of it by Steeplechase apparently. Reviews seem bad on discogs though but others have said the series sounds great...anybody here have any first hand knowledge?

I got the Nat Adderley re-issue on steeplechase, that sounds good. If you do get any of the others I would be interested to hear how they sound.

Sadly, they seem to be quite a bit more expensive to buy in the US since they are imports. I only see it at Acoustic Sounds and its over $30+ shipping. Not sure it's worth it for me to buy one with how bad the reviews are on that specific title.
