Jazz

Its an actual group performing original compositions from what I understand. I've listened to the link @Poly-Rythmo sent over a couple times now and really like the 'S/T' track, the percussion is great I've gone and put the order in as well

I couldn't figure out how to get the link @Poly-Rythmo it just takes me to a main page. Any ideas which one to click in particular.

I just wouldn't want like 10-15 mins of music so hopefully this is more than just a single/12" sampler kind of thing.

It's BROWNSWOOD BASEMENT WITH GILLES PETERSON on 9.6.20 if it isn't taking you straight to that (it works on my phone at least)

I refuse to buy pretty much everything (especially from unknown projects) without giving it a listen first. I'm not looking to flip; I want only to own things I really like. My first thought was it was OK but I didn't like it enough to buy (and that it was only tangentially jazz).
I will preorder a record from an artist I really love and sometimes take a punt on something like this, but since I'm trying to reel it in, I'll hold off on this one. Nothing grabbed me quickly enough in the samples to want this immediately.

Anyone happen to know any pressing information on this one? Or other recommended pressings?

I wanna pick it up...I really wanna pick it...but Newbury.

Well this is really exciting. @Mr Moore first made me aware of Teodross back when he released his 'Night For Coltrane' album on Tompkins Square Records (I cant recommend this enough, its fantastic). This one is a tribute to Thelonious Monk.

I cant seem to find it on vinyl for pre-order anywhere yet (if anyone does find one I would appreciate a tag!) so hopefully it gets a physical format release.

NEW RELEASE: Teodross Avery Presents Harlem Stories: The Music of Thelonious Monk - Out 08/21/2020, WJ3 Records - LYDIALIEBMAN.COM

Edit:
Heres a teaser/trailer

Concord pressings are usually pretty good IIRC. But the pricing on this just seems steep...if you don't mind black vs color variant, I'd probably look elsewhere for a repress.

I get lost between the variants but I just had shipping for the one I ordered ping through today as a heads up. Was from Rough Trade (UK).

Interesting...emailed RT about this and they told me:

The Rough Trade exclusive had to be pushed back until October I'm afraid due to a manufacturing issue.

So I may just go through bandcamp at this point...Wondering if this only affected the RT one? But seems that's the one that you already have shipped...curious to see what the deal is!

I have a few Concord OJC pressings and I've done a fair bit of forum sleuthing into them. I'm pretty sure they're mostly digital with a few exceptions. But the ones I have were pressed at RTI and sound very nice.... but that's not necessarily the case here. I agree with @MikeH, I'd just find the black variant if you're just looking for the music, but go for it if you love the color.

I know this is a long shot but if any of you guys bought the Donald Byrd – Byrd Jazz artisan pressing from Sam Records and ever think of selling it I would definitely be interested. I'm open to swapping bits for it as well if that's more of a preference.

Basically I came to the Sam Records party late and can't get enough of their releases. They all sound killer so far and I love the attention to detail.

Yea I'm kind of on that train at this point too. I scoffed at the price when it first became available at that price but then sold a bunch of records and went to buy it and it was gone! It looks awesome and I'm glad that they sold it out.

Similar thing happened to me. I was waiting for a bulk buy to cut down on the number of packages to be shipped (and price) and when I finally sold enough records to justify such a big spend a couple of the ones I wanted were sold out. I saw a lot of people kick off about the price of Byrd Jazz on a few forums but I personally think that the amount of detail makes it worthwhile, the screen-printed covers add an artistic element to it as well. At this point I would jump at the chance to get a copy, although its looking to be very, very unlikely.

I know that for the price, you'll get the quality expected with Sam Records. Curious to see what they cook up next! It seems that this one was successful so hoping they do another one in the series and it's a title I like!

The Black Jazz reissues are up over at Real Gone! Including the clear black smoke variants which are limited to 100 each!

Coral Keys, Hear, Sense and Feel and Spirit of the New Land are out for now. Came out to around $75 shipped for all three limited variants to the US.

As an FYI its worth checking amazon when considering record purchases. I was looking to order the 3lp 'box' set of Kaleidoscope: New Spirits Known & Unknown from Jazzman the other day. Looks to be around £26 - £28 average but I managed to get it for £22 the other day on Amazon UK. Not a crazy discount but still pretty fantastic for 3lp's.

Got Coral Keys from here a few days ago. Shocked it’s taking so long to sell out at 100 copies!

I had thought that RGM said that it wasn't up for sale until August 27th so I didn't even think to check. I ended up grabbing all 3 of the albums in the limited pressing. Emailed VMP last night to cancel my preorder and they already sent the PayPal refund through and responded to me which was a welcome surprise. I'm really surprised it's not sold out either. The OGs of these go for crazy money most of the time.

It looks like there have been some issues with the release of the Palo Alto Thelonious Monk live album. Universal Music has announced that the release has been postponed, with no announcement of a new date, and the teaser track has been removed from streaming services. Some have speculated it may be an issue with the janitor who recorded the concert.
