Jazz

It looks like there have been some issues with the release of the Palo Alto Thelonious Monk live album. Universal Music has announced that the release has been postponed, with no announcement of a new date, and the teaser track has been removed from streaming services. Some have speculated it may be an issue with the janitor who recorded the concert.
Oh god damn, can you even imagine the kind of mess this will cause!

Edit: @agutierrezb I just found this on the steve hoffman site.......delayed indefinitely???

My copy of Joe Harriott ‎– Chronology (Live 1968-69) arrived today and it looks fantastic. I will listen to it in the evening but from first glance its clear that a lot of care went into it. I love the old style flipback cover and I was excited to see Tubby Hayes features on a few tracks as well.

@britprogjazz I saw you mentioned that the tapes for the Michael Garrick were obtained from Ernie Garside and that he recorded every performance there. This honesty excites me more than anything because I love live jazz and some of the names they had play at Club 43 is incredible. Are there plans to dig into these archives for more releases in the future? I know Sonny Rollins and Johnny Griffin played there in the 60's.

I received my copy today and, in fact, it looks great! It seems to be sold out so I am happy to have a copy in hands!

Only thing is that I wish there was an inlet book with the story of this recording. From what I understand it comes from Ron Mathewson and Spike Wells tapes archive, I would have loved to know how you first heard about these tapes, how you found them, how these were recorded, etc... All the story behind the release of this record. I don't know if it is something you have done for your other releases and/or plan to do with the next but it is definitely something extremely valuable for me.

Question for all you audiophiles. Im thinking of picking up the AP Norah Jones on VMP (I have enough credit to cover 1) and just wondered how the pressing compares to the likes of the Tone Poets? I have never had an AP pressing before (tricky to get over here in the UK and pricey when you can) and just wondered if its worth the money?

I don’t have this specific AP but love all of the AP pressings I have. For me they rival pressings like Music Matters. Pressed at QRP and remastered by Kevin Gray. They sound awesome.

Ooooh well that sounds fantastic, and @Skalap has messaged like the hero he is to say he might be able to PIF me a copy!!

I seem to recall someone posting the Tapscott Sessions vinyl series? Anybody have them here? How do the pressings sound?
Speak of the devil, I believe that was @Skalap that posted a load of them recently on the fresh grabs.

Well I also highly recommend the Nina Simone Or Otis Redding APs if you’re looking for another one from VMP...

@Skalap —would love to hear your thoughts on the Tapscott if you’re the one that bought them recently!

@Selaws - The Norah Jones Analogue Productions pressing sounds amazing! The soundstage is amazing and her voice is so crystal clear! Sounds like she’s playing live! I highly recommend it! ♥

There is some distortion on my first copy, mostly on vocal part in the last song. The rest of the album sounds great. I haven't played my replacement but from what I read it seems to be a pressing defect.

I am the one who bought the serie. I haven't had time to listen though, I picked them up at my local last week and I hope I'll have some time to give it a first spin this week. All the records are still sealed so I don't even know how they look. I'll let you know asap. @NathanRicaud I also owe you some thoughts on Dafuniks, I'll try to tell you asap as well.

We all can be heroes, just for one day.

Im actually tempted by the Miles Davis. Its one that I actually havent got a copy of yet and it sounds like this could be a killer pressing.
It sounds really good in my opinion! The sound quality is so clear, it sounds so live! Again, great soundstage and separation on the AP pressing of Someday My Prince Will Come !

Can’t wait to hear about your thoughts on Dafuniks @Skalap ! I already sent money to Edd and he’s going to put it in my ROTM shipment with Donald Byrd and Henri Texier! Super duper excited! I’m also going to see if I can purchase The Brooks on top of my two add-ons and have it shipped all in the same box! 🤞

My package arrived in Sydney yesterday, so it should be arriving in Melbourne sometime this week, and maybe I’ll get my Wax Buyers Club box (which contains FunkProof & Oliver Nelson), this Friday!!! So excited! 🙉🙉🙉

There is also a bit of vocal distortion for me on the last track as well, but it’s no deal breaker for me. Especially as it’s not any of the tracks on Side A! The last track is still listenable for me though even though it’s not perfect 😃👍

I think it's hard to go wrong with AP pressings. I'd say they are on par with MoFi yet I know the mastering on MoFi can be suspect. I have around 15 AP pressings at this point (a lot of Jazz, Tea for the Tillerman and Pet Sounds) and think they all sound fantastic.

Exactly what I just wrote to @Selaws, I only remember of this distortion stuff on the last song. Thing is that it's supposed to be a premium record so this kind of defect shouldn't exist. As you said, the other songs are just perfect.

Great news! How much time did it take?
