Probably going to grab these in the 15% off sale at Forced Exposure. Wondering how these grey market Mike Westbrook reissues are gonna be.
I have the Preparation and it's fantastic. It was an RSD release that just wasn't really built up.

It's honestly one of my highlights. It was recorded just before his 'Pendulum' album and really sees them preparing for it (excuse the pun). It was recorded in Mike's grandparents' living room, which is where they jammed, but it's a decent quality from an audio perspective (obviously not audiophile though).

What's really impressive aside from the music is the fantastic booklet that comes with it. It's 18-pages that read as a detailed biography, packed with information, photos, interviews etc. And on top of all that it also comes with a repro poster from a Mike Taylor gig. This is how RSD releases should be IMO.

Heres an example page from the booklet.

Sunbeam do good work, and I wouldn't consider them grey market.

Klimt is Russian boot. Junk.

The Westbrook Love Songs is also a boot, and that one was done as a reissue from Japan a few years ago, and is pretty good.

Interesting. I thought Klimt was French. I have the boot they did of the Sun Ra Horo sessions and its not great but it was definitely worth the low price. I am hoping I feel the same way about the Westbrook.

Nubya Garcia has another remix album coming soon.

Personally, I enjoyed the RSD release but it's getting a bit much for me now and I likely won't get this one. I'm sure it's good, but there's only so many remixes that I can take.

Artwork and colour pressing have not been released yet.

I'm very excited about this, personally, but I understand your sentiment completely.
I reckon if Moses Boyd, Georgia Anne Muldrow and Blvck Spvde weren't involved, or it wasn't Nubya, I'd be far less excited.
I also really dig the first single.

Yeah I have to admit that the line-up of collaborators looks great! I just feel like she's perhaps spreading it a bit thin now, what with the RSD release and now this as well. I know it's not as simple as this, but I would prefer some new material.

This has remixes from KeiyaA and Dengue Dengue Dengue as well. 🔥

But yes, I’d also love some new material!

What's the word on the "Another Side of John Coltrane" release that came out today via Craft?

If I'm not mistaken, all of these tracks can be found elsewhere (a few of them from Mile's Prestige recordings, for example). So, is this just an attempt to pull together some defining performances from Coltrane as a sideman circa 1956-57? Do I *really* need that? Are there are exclusive tracks here?

What's the word on the quality? Are any of these tracks remixed at all?

I know Craft was selling a limited run of 500 on bright yellow vinyl (sold out) and B&N has a smoking gray exclusive.

All released tracks, not necessarily defining performances. Sideman tracks, some notable, some ok but not essential.

Do you need it? I sure don't.

Quality - you can't remix mono, or two track stereo. And digital sourced.

Ooooh - the yellow is sold out! Damn - that would have gone so well with the cover, and would look very cool on my table.

Pass. Cash grab.

Anybody pick up the Gearbox reissue of Ken Wheeler Windmill Tilter? I haven’t gotten any Gearbox pressings but seem to recall people like their reissues?

It's pretty great. I haven't had a chance to listen to it a lot, but would definitely recommend, along with Don Rendell from the Jazz in Britain series.

I bought a copy of the Don Rendell Space Walk today. I held off on the Windmill Tilter though, still holding out for an OG at some point.

Gearbox in general are fantastic, they are one of those labels that I am happy to buy without reading reviews on the quality. Their set-up is pretty amazing from what I have heard/read and they generally seem like they are really into their craft.
