45 rpm LPs only bother me when they put 4 minutes of music on one side and it's all wasted vinyl (AP's 45 cut of Muddy Waters Folk Singer).

Think I may resist the urge on that Evans RSD title, as I bought this one.Not sure why Craft didn't reissue it in the US.

Gary's theme is one of my favorite tunes on that album though. The CD version has a few extra tracks including a rendition of Freddie Freeloader.

I recently got the Japanese SACD ripped and it’s such a beautiful album. Love Gary’s Theme too. Hoping I can grab the RSD one

Maybe it's because I didn't know the original song, but I do enjoy Evans's rendition. It may even be my favorite track on the album haha

Edit: Nevermind, "The Peacocks" is definitely my favorite track on the album

Question for the RSD releases, are a lot of them digitally available? I ask because if like to listen first if possible to see if my trip to the store is even worth it because I have Disney to go to 2 months later.

yep! just take a quick search on spotify/apple music/youtube. i'd say probably 99% of this stuff can be sampled online. there are some occasional releases that are first time releases of lost albums or b-sides or live recordings, but most have had other releases in the past.

I wanted the Quiet Kenny and my store never even got it in. So I need to know if my one release I wanna get is a jazz that I have multiple selections to be safe haha

That one was EXTREMELY limited. I think 1500 worldwide or something crazy. You can see how many of each are pressed at the RSD site and can try to get an idea of which titles might be harder than others to come by.

Might be a good way to target what I want. Makes me mad that they should have made It much easier to get. As if trying to get into jazz wasn’t hard already enough HAHA

I think they will reissue it as a stereo pressing soon enough.

It's a great time to be someone trying to get into jazz! So many great reissue series that are pretty affordable. And of course a lot of us are here to help give suggestions. Both Blue Note series (classic + Tone Poet) and the Acoustic Sounds series are amazing and have a pretty wide range of titles. Pure Pleasure and Speakers Corner have great titles that are quality pressings. I'd also check out the Zavvi Mystery Jazz box if the price drops again. I think $60 is steep for it now, but it's gone pretty low in the past and the pressings are nice. The price fluctuates a lot. Think it's gone as low as $30 or maybe lower.

I’ll keep that bookmarked! Yeah I think since I have to grab at straws to see what I want really for this RSD, maybe a jazz release would be cool. I know I’d be super safe with the Ray Charles as I know a bunch of stuff. However, that feels “safe” if you know what I mean.

I think the best way to get into jazz, for me, was to listen to a bunch of classic jazz records, look at the credits of albums I liked and look up more albums those musicians played on. The Penguin Guide To Jazz: Core Collection list is pretty solid too but you can definitely branch out from there.

Loads to read up on! I just thought about it and I think I have two jazz records. I have a Buddy Rich and the soundtrack to Cowboy Beebop so I think those would class as Jazz. Maybe I have some without realizing. May have to update the cogs over the weekend and post it on the site to have y’all look and help HAHA

I would say that the popularity of Quiet Kenny was a surprise all around.

I'm quite active in the jazz circle on Instagram and from what I saw it steamrolled as soon as the first person posted about it being a good release. People were selling and trading them on there for crazy prices. In the past, I believe Craft has released stereo pressings of their mono RSD releases (or vice versa) a few months later, so this could be the case here.

In my opinion though, if you are just getting into jazz I would stay clear of the more pricey limited releases and stick to getting good but affordable reissues of the core jazz albums. This will allow you to really hone in on the specific type of jazz you like without blowing your budget. As @MikeH said, the Zavvi deal is a good way to do this.

This means I could possibly skip RSD (which I want to go but… Disney) and then after have Jazz be my next focus.

Yea--I don't know that any outside of that Monk title are must haves, and the Monk is pretty widely available in other pressings if you're just starting to get into jazz. Can always pick it up later as a non-RSD release I'd imagine.

I like going to see Martin and Bennett (two of the guys at the store) so maybe that and the spoon one. If I even do go! It’s just the fun of being there.
