Wowza, thats one of my most spun BE records, so fun to hear him swing with a more traditional hard-bop band. Might be one of my favorite jazz records period, every track on there is so distinctly executed.i don't actually! one of the few of his more well-known albums I don't own yet! I saw an OJC a month or so ago in a shop but ended up buying some other stuff instead.
I really do love International Anthem. They are good folks. If you needed another reason to support International Anthem…
Bought the latest Jeremiah Chiu album at one of their in person shows and found it had a sizeable scratch that affected playback…. messaged them on IG and they immediately got a replacement disc out to me and left a personal note
I like it too, but I had heard the recent OJC wasn't great so I just haven't gotten around to it! Kinda hoping that people sell off more of the APs at cheaper prices once the box set is re-released. I was able to grab How My Heart Sings for a good price a month or two ago because of that reason.Wowza, thats one of my most spun BE records, so fun to hear him swing with a more traditional hard-bop band. I own an 80’s OJC that I got sealed off Cogs for like $50 last year and it sounds phenomenal. I’ve heard the more recentt Interplay OJC sounds pretty lame fwiw.
That boxset, wish I got a pre-order in on it when it was $600 which already felt quite expensive. The Sinatra MoFi set and the Bill Evans box are probably the two boxsets I have got to have at some point. May have to figure out how to swing the AP repress.I like it too, but I had heard the recent OJC wasn't great so I just haven't gotten around to it! I'm breaking my 45 rule to get it!haha yes we did!
and i do wish it was a 33, but i'm still buying it anyway because boomboom+ AAA+ i love the album.
Same. Even if it was $600 today though that's a ton for me to spend on one vinyl purchase. That boxset, wish I got a pre-order in on it when it was $600 which already felt quite expensive. If you don't mind digital this BN compilation curated by Michael Cuscuna contains the Oleo material. It's out there and affordable.just watched the joe harley x 45RPM interview finally.
interesting that Oleo by Grant Green and Sweet Honey Bee by Duke Pearson no longer have working master tapes! i do remember KG saying most of the BN tapes have no degradation whatsoever. Not sure if all the copies of those titles were snagged from discogs right after this interview but seems neither have many copies, if any, available now on discogs.

Want to know what FOMO looks like. All the OG copies of Oleo on Discogs sold yesterday after the video was released. 3 sold this year so far.....then 5 sold in 1 day, 1 of which was the highest its sold for on cogs.just watched the joe harley x 45RPM interview finally.

Should have listed mine! I have the OG Japanese pressing that I bought on ebay years ago but haven't listened to it in a bit.Want to know what FOMO looks like. Damn, I haven't even seen one in the flesh. Any time I see an OG Grant Green nowadays (which is rare) it always goes for mad money.I passed on this a while ago on King, I'll maybe just have to get the wax time copy now
Plenty of BN tapes have issues - generally the best sellers that have seen decades of use for reissues.just watched the joe harley x 45RPM interview finally.

He didn't say all BN's don't have degradation. But that most he comes across sound great and don't have degradation because they were stored properly. He said that Rudy often used Scotch 111 tapes, which seem to last for a very long time. Hasn't noticed a ton of degradation on the tapes they have used.Plenty of BN tapes have issues - generally the best sellers that have seen decades of use for reissues.
For example, the master for Maiden Voyage has been unuseable for over a decade. Reissues have used a good 2nd gen tape. Lou Donaldson's Lush Life is another - when RVG remastered it for CD, he actually used a needle drop. Guessing here, but Sweet Honey Bee is probably just missing.
I wonder where KG or JH are coming from. KG said that the numerous issues people reported - Warblegate - with the first round of TP's were due to tape issues. Hard to then say that most have no degredation whatsoever.
He was also saying that some of the noise problems aren’t down to tape but the challenges of mastering live in the studio. He said hear RVG turning the fader down when the trumpet comes in sort of thing. Also mentioned a lack of headroom on early scotch tape which didn’t help.Plenty of BN tapes have issues - generally the best sellers that have seen decades of use for reissues.
