Jazz

The Roy Brooks album has the Horace Silver Quintet at the time minus the leader, which means the band has solid chemistry. I used to have the CD of this (might still have it) and remember this as an enjoyable session.

I love that Sunao Wada. Where'd you get these from?
Universounds. Yusuke held my purchases so I could bundle several into one flat-rate shipment. He’s very nice and responsive. His quality/ratings are phenomenal, and his prices are very fair.

Sunao Wada is my first OG-era TBM and sounds ridiculously good. Paid a premium, of course, but substantially lower than Discogs median for a M- rated item. The exchange rate helps a lot.

The Richard Davis record is really distinct and interesting. Seems to fall into a “jazz, but not jazz” genre to me.

The biggest challenge with Universounds is timing the sales. Many items sell virtually instantly. It would also be easier if I understood Japanese bc the site doesn’t play well with browser auto-translations.

I picked up another Richard Davis album from Record City not too long ago:

He has some interesting records for sure.

That looks like it could be amazing! How do you like it? He has had an amazing career! From Out to Lunch to Astral Weeks to 45+ years as a professor in Wisconsin, etc. Richard Davis (bassist) - Wikipedia

Yea--he's extremely talented and has played on all sorts of amazing albums.

I like the one I posted. my wife HATES it haha so I haven't spun it a ton lately. Gets a bit too "out there" for her. But definitely worth checking out!

I really like the Philadelpha experiment one they did a long time ago too

Yeah, I loved Philadelphia, was less sold on Detroit and haven't heard Harlem.

I can't believe this went up in January and I've missed it until now. Apparently the CD was out in March.

I hadn't heard of this new one at all either. Didn't realize it came out that long ago. I only just got an email from the rope-a-dope bandcamp about it so assumed it was new. Or maybe I did know and just completely forgot haha

Odd, I wondered if you'd maybe got an email from them. Perhaps it was delayed but they had the original release date in the write-up still, because it says January 28, 2022, for release date even though vinyl isn't shipping until mid-November. Discogs lists the CD as having been released sometime in March. It's a mystery!

Either way, thanks for posting!!

Ogawa-san is a legend, but I can never buy online from him since everything is gone almost immediately - he is responsible for Deep Jazz Reality and Project; Re-Vinyl series. He is very generous with his time if you're even in Tokyo and worth a visit to his store, but if you have something you're after maybe email him first before going as not everything is out on display (at least last time I was there in 2019).

sorry about the TBM, you're in for it now...so many of the really interesting titles don't have modern represses so off to chase the dragon are you....but and not to drive up prices for 2nd or 3rd pressings, it really doesn't matter on sound quality, they all kill it. it will just be different obis and in rare cases different covers...but from 1st to 2nd its the same metal

Here’s a little more information and some background quotes about this second batch of Candid (by Grundman! ;)) releases.

Has anyone received any of these yet or had an updated release date? I have both Bookers on order with Amazon. They had them a great prices for pre-order but now is listed at OOS. Was originally supposed to ship end of August. Not worried just curious how they sound
