July 2019 Vinyl Challenge

Day 19: Favorite Instrument
Lee Morgan - The Sidewinder

I suppose I could have picked any guitar music as it is most heavily represented in my collection but I'm not sure what kind to choose. I'll always have a soft spot for the trumpet as it is the only instrument I was ever any good at. Lee is definitely one of the greats.

Day 19 - Favorite Instrument

Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy

So at first I tried to pretend I could pick a different instrument for this category but, I'm a drummer, and I just like the drums the best. John Bonham was such an influence in my early years of playing, and is still one of my very favorites. HotH is such a strong, clean and well played album. Zep may have been at their writing and recording peak here. This record might not have as many huge bombastic Bonham moments as some other records, but his pocket presence is strong and musical through the entire record. What a pro.

19: Favourite instrument

Various Artists - Wayfaring Strangers: Guitar Soli

I also tried to convince myself that my favourite instrument was either the cello or the flute for the purpose of this challenge. But the guitar has been my favourite instrument at least since I was 13 and began playing. It started with punk and metal but quickly my focus turned to folk and its offshoots. I can't play anything like these guys but I really appreciate a player who can turn in a captivating performance with no vocals at all.

Day 19 - Favorite Instrument

It’s gotta be the guitar. Started playing trumpet in 5th grade, picked up a bass around 8th grade and finally began playing guitar somewhere around early high school. Have dabbled with lots of other instruments, but I always seem to return back to the guitar.

Psychedelic, acid drenched guitar is definitely my sweet spot. Wanted to go Garcia, then Dean Ween, but that’s too predicable from me. So lets showcase Jon Dwyer, the mad scientist guitar madman.
