Wednesday (17) – Older Adolescent: Ahh college and the introduction to godspeed, how did your tastes change.
My music tastes have definitely broadened in college, from mostly classic rock, hair bands, & gangster rap in High School, to electronic & jazz in college. This one got me more into electronic...
VAST – Visual Audio Sensory Theater
And incidentally, this was a secret Santa gift to me from a couple years back. Thanks Santa!
I am shocked no one said Vaughn Oliver yet.
Mixing different forms of media and using text as a form of artwork is what makes one instantly recognize not just a 4AD release, but also a V23/Oliver creation. No other artist has a stamp this viscerally unique in my book.
Not that he needs hyping, but in a cool related story; a friend of mine got Klaus to do the artwork on her album a few years ago. When I asked how, she said "I emailed him."
William Schaff painted this beautiful cover art, as well as the inner sleeves for Godspeed record yesterday (the last photos here), which "inspired" the cover art for that record. Both iconic covers and two of the most beautiful in my collection.
Friday (19) – Ecstasy - play something that makes you wanna love everyone
Gang of Youths "Go farther in lightness"
This is an incredible hopeful and encouraging album. It's got powerful lyrics and great melodies, accumulating to the incredible lyrics of "Say yes to life" . Shows how we all struggle at times, but motivates to go on. It fills me with love for others as we're all in this together.
Nobody puts me in such a joyous mood as Fruko. It's impossible not to smile or dance when he's playing. This is possibly his best album with probably his best song, Salsa Na Ma.
Day 19 - Ecstasy - play something that makes you wanna love everyone
The Beatles - 1
Three songs on Side A alone have the word love in the title, and the rest have themes about love. Plus this one has one of the best "love everyone" songs ever, All You Need Is Love!
Day 19: Ecstasy
Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong / Ella and Louis
This was an easy one. This is the album I’m taking to that desert island. Where there would be no one to love. Oh well, you get the idea.
Day 19: Ecstasy - Play something that makes you want to love everyone
Growing up, I snuck this compilation this out of my sisters record collection all the time. Was talking about that memory a year or so ago with a friend of mine from out of state who said they had an extra copy and they did a PIF. So this one has double love for me.
Day 19: Ecstasy - play something that makes you wanna love everyone Roni Size Reprazent - New Forms When this album starts up I almost instinctually start grinding my teeth in anticipation.
Also, I get everyone’s drug experiences are different and respect everyones choices thus far but the lack of beat driven techno, house, D&B, Jungle, even [shudders] EDM music on Ecstasy day is staggering. I get that not everyone has DJ Funk’s Booty House Anthems on wax but maybe some Chemical Brothers, or Basement Jaxx or Daft Punk?
