June 2020 Record Challenge Thread (The RAFFLE continues!)

Also, I get everyone’s drug experiences are different and respect everyones choices thus far but the lack of beat driven techno, house, D&B, Jungle, even [shudders] EDM music on Ecstasy day is staggering. I get that not everyone has DJ Funk’s Booty House Anthems on wax but maybe some Chemical Brothers, or Basement Jaxx or Daft Punk?

Day 17 – Older Adolescent: Ahh college and the introduction to godspeed, how did your tastes change.

Kid Cudi ‎– Man On The Moon II (Universal Motown, 2010 First Pressing)

Interesting one here as a lot of the 'new' music I was listening to at Uni/College never came out on vinyl, or I didn't buy it anyway. Without trying to sound highbrow or snobby, I'm big into the album format and a lot of the big hits of my uni days were all about the single, with a poor album follow up (which arguably is still the case for a lot of musicians). One musician I did listen to quite a bit was Kid Cudi. Sure, he had a couple of purposely catchy singles, but his less popular tracks are actually the more meaningful and personal. I never actually listened to this album until years after its release and while it wasn't as popular as his others, there's lots of deep meaning to some of the tracks.

I think the production on this album is some of the best of the decade. I wish Emile would do more production work these days.. great pick!

Day 19: Ecstasy

Otis Redding with Booker T. & The MG’s and The Mar-Keys - Captured Live at The Monterey International Pop Festival

One of my favourite live records, recorded during the Summer of Love at the Monterey Pop Festival! There’s such an infectious energy coming from Otis’ performance and you can hear the love and adoration coming from the crowd.

Day 18 – Hype up an *artist* that created some art for a band you love.

DAY 18 - ALBUM ARTIST

I am shocked no one said Vaughn Oliver yet.
Mixing different forms of media and using text as a form of artwork is what makes one instantly recognize not just a 4AD release, but also a V23/Oliver creation. No other artist has a stamp this viscerally unique in my book.

Speaking of books:

I have spent hours poring through this.

Same artist, different band.
He did all of the Pixies albums.
I'm picking this puppy that's turning 30 this year (oof I feel old)

Day 11 - Underated Bassist

Craig Cook is the Bassist for one of my favorite bands The Murlocs, bit of a side project of King Gizzard. While Cook isn't the Bassist for KGATLW he's written a ton of their bass lines.

This side project of his Pipe-Eye is a Fun, Whimsical, Jazzy, Trippy Bedroom Rock kinda Output. Right up my Alley! The Bass is the focus of the music for me, he has such an ability to make these insanely captivating grooves that just loop around my head for days and days. This album is a modern classic in my opinion!
