Kanye

I have nothing constructive to add to the Kanye talk, but I will not let you disrespect T-Pain like that.
Kanye nearly broke T-Pain too during the making of 808s. He brought T-Pain in to consult with all the auto-tune stuff since T-Pain was kind of the leading auto-tune expert at the time...

T-Pain claims the process wasn't as enjoyable as you would think. He recalls one instance where Kanye West put him on blast during a studio session, and that everyone present joined in. "He came up with this song for me, and it wasn't a good song," T-Pain says. "It was basically describing how wack my ideas was that I was coming up with. And he made everybody in the studio join in with him to sing like, 'T-Pain's shit is weak.'"

Lol. 20 Year Deluxe Anniversary Edition is going to include that song and you can even get it bundled with a shirt emblazoned with "T-Pain's shit is weak".

T-Pain did go on to say that he thought the song should have made it onto the album and that lyrically it was actually pretty good hah. But he thought it would have been fucked up to add a diss track about him.

Serious question as I don't know the answer. Looking for a history lesson haha was Kanye also pivotal to the neo-soul movement of rapping and singing? For instance an album like Anderson .Paak's Malibu. I feel like he was one of the firsts or at least pushed that sound, but like I said, I don't know the background well enough to be sure haha. Please enlighten me!

I'd say the Soulquarians were more responsible for that influence.

I don't pretend to be an expert, but just in popular rap in the 90s, you've got people like Lauryn Hill, Cee-lo, Andre 3k, Missy, Q-tip, etc. Unless you're talking about a specific wave.

All very true, I guess I should have given it more thought haha the autotune conversation had me thinking about rappers' willingness to sing, but I can't believe I forgot about Ms. Lauryn!haha

I'd say T-Pain and Kanye helped popularize rappers thinking they can sing and may have made them more confident to sing their own hooks with autotune as a crutch.

And don't forget Biz Markie! :ROFLMAO:
This is the exact example I was coming here to give hahah. YOOooOooOoOOUUUU. YOU GOT WHAT I NeeEEEEED. I used to LOVE that music vid.

Not really. Kanye took a bit of the soulquarians vibe and formula (intentional or not) and made it more mainstream. The Soulquarians were more of a late 90's earliest aughts thing. There was some overlap between solo-ye and that crew, but the rise of Kanye kind-of signaled the death of the soulquarians thing. I think Dilla passed a year or two after College Dropout

Questlove talks about it here:

He would've been able to write Through the Wire pt. 2

I wonder if the metal plate he has from the accident wouldve stopped the bullet had he been shot there, or if it would've been detrimental

The thought was actually in place of the accident

he got shot in the face and made some dope stuff

This had me thinking and asking friends WHAT IF

yall laugh all you like. ive worked on several folks that told me that was no car accident.
Whether or not it's true, it is kinda funny to go back and read it and in my mind there was a bit of a record scratch moment trying to remember when exactly Kanye got shot. I had never heard that before so it was a bit funny to see you say he got famous after he got shot in the face.

All good man I'm just messing around. I've heard that theory but there r also hospital records and footage of him in the hospital unless he got the crap beat out of him before he got shot in the face then who knows. I dont see why a rapper like Kanye would not use that as a platform for whatever he wanted whether it he change or power but who knows. Maybe it's true and maybe DOOM has been letting Tupac live at his compound in Cuba
