Let's See What Makes Your Vinyl Spin!

I went GR. I couldn’t really rationalize $2300 difference between the two.

I did get the new upgraded glass composite mat from Funk Firm and a KAB damper.

Yeah I can get that. Bar choosing the 1200 over the 1210 that is likely the trio I’d get if I was looking for a new table anytime soon. Touch wood I won’t have to for a while yet!

I’m looking forward to hearing how you’re all getting on with them!

The 1200 was (and is) an audiophile table first. The DJs picked up in it because is not susceptible to acoustic feedback and it’s built like a tank.

Totally, here’s an interesting interview with DJ Kool Herc himself, where he discusses gear and his choice of turntable BITD (1100, he actually disliked the changes to the 1200mk1). Seems like he was hanging around in nascent audiophile circles in the 70s. I’ve gotten deep into a 1200mk1 these last few months (like recapping a board, replacing transistors, RCA cables myself deep), and it’s funny to see a deck with so little of the “DJ features” that bears the name 1200.

So what everyone is going Technics now 👀🤔
For me, it was completely circumstances plain and simple and I've always found the GR a great TT. Cherry picking from everything I had and MD giving me more than expected for the UD, selling the PLX and shifting to the GR was a more than acceptable compromise. At the end of the day, while I wanted to concentrate on another hobby, I still wanted to retain a "good" system.................I wasn't ready to go digital or grab a suitcase TT ;)
