9. Sandwich update #2

Still no spinning, but I did manage to go for a sandwich at lunch today.

Hoang Oanh, classic banh mi spicy
I walked by this hole-in-the-wall place that had banh mi so I went with their classic vietnamese sandwich with extra chillies. Not bad at all. Not the top banh mi I’ve had but definitely enjoyable. Eating it reminded me of this little spot that was a block from my apartment when I lived here. This small lady with a leather captain’s hat would make what remains my favourite banh mi, all for a big $2. The key was this homemade sauce she would add, some liquidy mix of soy with fish sauce and garlic. Unfortunately that place was already closed when I left the city in 2009.

Montréal is almost certainly the best city in Canada for good food, cheap food, AND cheap good food!

“Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not ‘Mr. Lebowski.’ You’re Mr. Lebowski. I’m the Dude, so that’s what you call me. That or, uh, His Dudeness or, uh, Duder, or El Duderino, if you’re not into the whole brevity thing.”

Play something short, or long, if you are not into the whole, you know…

Modest Mouse & 764-Hero - Whenever You See Fit

I'm playing a long song (14 minutes) that is also a short release (14 minutes).

Day 11: “He’s a good man… and thorough.”
Play an artist you have explored thoroughly

Miles Davis - Fearless (March 7, 1970 Live at the Fillmore East)

Figured I’d use this prompt as an excuse to spin a fresh grab. I think I’ve listened to every Miles Davis album. And I love almost all of them.

One of my earliest musical memories is playing Deja Vu and Harvest on my parents record player, and it's been on since then.

First time I saw Neil live was in '93 with Booker T. and the MGs, and I get to go see him again on his solo tour tonight. Going with a solo show from 53 years ago (!) to tie it all together.

Sandwich update #3

Another day without the ability to spin records, but another sandwich to enjoy.

Arthur’s, Gravlax on black bread with caramelized onion cream cheese

Arthur’s opened a place downtown and instead of the usual breakfast fare, I went for lunch and had this pretty great gravlax sandwich. The fresh tomatoes really tied the sandwich together. Had a side of pickles and latkes. Pretty happy about this choice.

I don't think I've heard of Gravlax before. Only Lox. Gonna have to search some out!
