Day 16 - Forgotten FOMO

I try to avoid FOMO purchases, but this one got me good. This was an exclusive in-person release at a Bowie exhibit at the Brooklyn museum - when they added leftovers to their website and I quickly jumped on it without much thought. It’s a cool thing to have as a Bowie fan, but it doesn’t sound very good and isn’t a remarkable performance or anything like that. This content sounds way better on Stage 2017.

Day 16: Forgotten FOMO - play something that FOMO made you buy, but haven't really listened to much.

San Diego Comic Con is the king of FOMO with so many exclusives every year. Mondo booth drops are no exception, you need to be in the right place at the right time to get them - and be willing to wait in line for a long time. Picked this one up in 2017 and got it signed by the artist (Jock), don't listen to it all that often but enjoy it when I do.

A good blend of FOMO and nostalgia tends to result in impulse buys. This record came out well after the peak of my appreciation for emo, but it reminds me of some really fun years working for a Top 40 station while in college and I’m enjoying it on a sunny day like today.

Gene "Rising For Sunset - Live At The Troubadour, L.A. June 1 & 2 2000" (RSD2020 Demon Records)

Bought on one of the RSD2020 dates when pretty much everything you buy is because of FOMO. It's a pretty good show and it's well recorded but I only spun this once before.

March 17: St. Patrick's Day - The luck of the Irish...play something Irish...or Green.

Orgone - Undercover Mixtape

This one is green and features Kelly Finnigan on a track, who happens to have a very Irish name haha. Kelly features on Nobody's Fault But Mine, an Otis Redding cover which is one of my all time favorite covers. I love Otis, but they kill this version of the classic!

Turns out Frank Turner is British. No idea why I thought he was Irish.

So let's bring out the less obvious but still fantastic record. For my money one of the five best Irish films of the last decade and arguably the best, starring the pre-eminent Irish actress of the last decade, with some of the best Irish scenery shots...from a movie named after an American city.

As an aside, it's definitely one of the stronger sub-25 dollar soundtracks out there. 2 LPs, high quality packaging, score and soundtrack in one package (I wish more movies did this), with a nice insert, good photography, etc. Also, as far as I can tell, the score is on Spotify but the soundtrack isn't, and I'm a sucker for owning the physical media for things that don't appear on streaming. One of my favorite online blind buys.

March 15: The Ides of March - play an album that marked the beginning of the end for a band
Nirvana - MTV Unplugged In New York

Looking back at the performance now, with the band surrounded by Stargazer Lilies (a common flower found at funerals) their set had an elegiac and reverent tone; it seems like an obvious end point for both the band and sadly Kurt.
