March 16: Forgotten FOMO

I've played this album once - and it wasn't even this VMP variant. FOMO got me and I ordered this and the retail Lavender variant that arrived first.

I did just order their new album that releases tomorrow, but I haven't heard anything from it yet.

March 18: That new record smell. Play a recently opened album.

Purchased only for the nostalgia purposes, the music isn't all that great - this was a movie that I LOVED when I was a kid. Released on my birthday (March 28th) in 1986 , I turned 9 and pretty sure we saw it in the theater sometime that spring.

Rented it multiple times when it came to VHS and then had a dubbing of HBO to watch anytime I wanted. Never released on DVD or Blu Ray until last May by Vinegar Syndrome on 4K Blu-ray....and then a few days ago in a Steelbook Blu-ray from Mill Creek/Mondo.

Watching it today is a little cringy and the plot is a bit boring, but it's a kids BMX movie...and I still love it.

March 16: Forgotten FOMO - play something that FOMO made you buy, but haven't really listened to much.

TLC - CrazySexyCool

This VMP pressing popped up in swaps one month last year. FOMO caused me to swap for it without much thought. I do like this album and enjoy spinning it, but I think this is only my third time doing so.

March 18: That new record smell. Play a recently opened album.

I think the most recent album I've actually opened, from a closed sleeve, is this one. I have a few that are still sealed to be opened and some that were new but opened (to sign a sleeve or in opened shrink).

This is pretty much entirely the fault of the the Definitive Pressings thread. Definitely some charm to this one, not 100% sure it's "2x premium of standing pressing" worth it with my basic set-up but I'm certainly not upset to have it. The brass and guitar sound amazing on it.

Norah Jones - Feels Like Home

Bought this for my son for Christmas. He hadn't opened it yet, so I took it upon myself. Mmmmm, cake...

I notice your tiny tape deck there next to your turntable. I am in the market for a tape deck component for my main setup. How’s that working out for ya. I am trying to decide if I want something smallish like that or go for the dual player full size type unit.

For as infrequently as I play tapes, it's perfect. Got it mostly to play the leftover tapes that I've kept, but I don't actively search out new cassettes.

Right on. I have a fondness for 80s and 90s Rap and Alternative cassettes and antiquated technology. I recently picked up Husker Du, Black Sheep, and Dave Matthews Band tapes and combined they cost me less than $10. I used to have an old Subaru with a cassette player that initially sparked my interest but since that car died, all I have is a tiny boombox to play them on. I figured a Tape deck would be a great way to burn through some of that stimulus money.

Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher

I got this album from Magnolia Record Club because it was all the talk before it released. I had heard the Better Oblivion Community Center song Dylan Thomas and really liked it, so I figured this would be right up my alley. I gave it a listen when I received it and it didn't connect with me. So, I went about my business. Then, it was like I couldn't go to the bathroom without a picture of her showing up on the toilet paper the rest of the year! Haha. It was Phoebe Mania on my social media feed! So, I spun it again toward the end of the year when I was going through my Albums of the Year. Still nothing. Now, I spun it again today and there are some good songs on here. I'm happy I own it. I'll probably play it again when someone asks me about a forgotten album from 2020.

I"m gonna kill you.......if you don't beat me to it

March 17: St. Patrick's Day - The luck of the Irish...play something Irish...or Green.

Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak

The Dublin boys are back in town. ...and by "back in town" I mean "on my turntable". I don't have much to say other than Thin Lizzy is criminally underrated and one time I was in someone's basement in Lansing, Michigan waiting for The Weakerthans to play a gig, and a song came on the radio and my friend and I thought the song kept saying "SATAN! SATAN!" over and over. Turns out it was Thin Lizzy and he was saying "FIGHTIN!"

Tonight there's gonna be trouble, some of us won't survive...

Zac Brown Band - You Get What You Give

I'm not that big of a Zac Brown fan. I'm really not. The fact that I have played two of his records in the past week is coincidence. In fact, playing this one when it's 37 degrees feels wrong in some way. This has been sitting in my Discogs wantlist forever and Acoustic Sounds just happened to put up a used copy last week. Though it is used, it felt like something new and special because Acoustic Sounds packages their records the same whether you are buying a hundred dollar record or a twenty dollar record. So, it was nice opening this on Tuesday.

bought a boat and i sailed off in it, don't think anybody gonna miss me anyway...
