DAVID LYNCH DAY
45 years ago today, David Lynch's debut film Eraserhead hit theaters. Play something surreal or experimental.
Not that many in the cubes to work with because I’m boring. With that said I’ve been meaning to give this one another try and given the RotM has my favorite of hers…let’s try another. I give it Side A before the GF demands a changeover
Day 18: ONE FOR THE NIGHTHAWKS Play an album that you feel is best enjoyed at night.
Elliott Smith - New Moon
Best appreciated during quiet moments of contemplation ideally only interrupted when the ice cubes clink the bottom of a heavy tumbler and the splash of whiskey being poured over top. Always better at night.

Orville Peck - Pony
A masked singer who makes music that sounds like a cross between Johnny Cash and Morrissey. In a Lynchian middle of nowhere desert dive bar I imagine Peck preforming in the background while the protagonist shares a moment with their romantic obsession. As the scene climaxes more and more of the focus drifts to Peck’s performance. I am surprised it hasn’t happened yet to be honest.

Sharon Van Etten - Remind Me Tomorrow
While not truly experimental in the sense of the word this was an experimental album for Sharon, very synth heavy. Plus she said she this album was partially inspired by David Lynch (she also appeared in the Twin Peaks reboot!)
I already played one by this band earlier this month so I’ll play this record this time. Not as Lynchian as their latest album but it’s still pretty out there

ST. PATRICK'S DAY
Happy St. Patrick's Day! Celebrate by doing one of two things: 1) play an album by an Irish artist or 2) play an album you feel lucky to have found, for whatever reason.

Ellen Fullman - The Long String Instrument
I've hollowed out and curated a cube for avant-garde records, as I've been intrigued by the free form possibilities of the genre in the past few years. This one is fitting to my ears, but I'll leave it up to you if you deem it surreal enough:

EAR CANDY
Play something with immaculate production values.
I went to see John Mulaney on Friday. His entire pre show playlist for the crowd and his walk off song were the same band. He also referenced them in Oh Hello. He took Pete Davidson to see them. So they’ve been on my mind. And as such…
