May 2020 Record Challenge Thread (PRIZE RAFFLE AT THE END!)

Funny, I never thought of the paper bag as the cover. I actually quite like the artwork underneath.

Thank you for not posting it.

I’m going to do another twofer. This here is my least favorite album cover:

Unfortunately I wasn’t in the mood to listen to the album, so instead I picked my second least-favorite album cover, St. Vincent’s Masseduction:

Glad we can now move on to Day 28!

Aww I love both of these covers lol. Yeah it's in a "so bad its good" kinda way but still

Day 28 - An album that’s full of hope

Dilla made this masterpiece while battling an incurable blood disease. Much of it was composed in the hospital, and he eventually passed right after it released. I think it’s a statement to never give up hope, and to use all the time you have to the fullest.

Day 27: Least favorite album cover

Portugal. the Man / Censored Colors

I don’t think the cover photo is offensive or vile or anything. There are many albums out there with those types of covers (which I choose not to purchase), but it’s just.....boring. And worse, it betrays the beauty of the music contained within. It’s like, here’s this meticulously crafted album, lets go to the water with the shittiest stuff we can gather and just take snapshots with no effort put in whatsoever. You know what, maybe it does offend me? Hahaha.

Day 28: HOPE (It dangles on a string)

The Kinks - Something Else by The Kinks

I was scooped a few times today and it made me realize I listen to a lot more sad music than happy music.

Something Else was made as Ray Davies was coming out of nervous breakdown after Face to Face and during a time of massive change in the Western World. This kicks off a string of albums filled with nostalgia and loss and lament for a world you may never have fully known. But this album just so happens to close with Waterloo Sunset, maybe the most beautiful song of rock's golden age?, letting us know we can find paradise anywhere.

Day 27: Least favorite album cover

Badbadnotgood - IV

This one is embarassing to display...which is really unfortunate because it's an amazing album.

I don't get why many people say that about this cover. True, it isn't exactly the best cover, but it isn't the worst. I don't mind it, actually think it's kind of funny and a good reference for people to remember the album.

Day 28: An album that’s full of hope

Cat Stevens - Teaser and the Firecat

"Now I've been happy lately
Thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be
Something good has begun
Oh, I've been smiling lately
Dreaming about the world as one
And I believe it could be
Someday it's going to come"

Pretty hard to imagine feeling this way right now, but this album does usually make me feel better in spite of it all, anyway.

Different tastes! I agree it is a bit funny, but if you were a dude in that band, and there was a chance that was the best art you ever made in your life, would that be how you want to remember it?

Day 28 - Hope

Ben Howard - Every Kingdom

You gotta balance the downer stuff with the uplifting stuff. I mean, there's literally a song called Keep Your Head Up on this one. Just a classic album, great flow, great mood. Great videos too. This sunny evening is finding it to be a perfect fit!
