May 2020 Record Challenge Thread (PRIZE RAFFLE AT THE END!)

Funny, I never thought of the paper bag as the cover. I actually quite like the artwork under eath

Thank you for not posting it.

I’m going to do another twofer. This here is my least favorite album cover:

Unfortunately I wasn’t in the mood to listen to the album, so instead I picked my second least-favorite album cover, St. Vincent’s Masseduction:

Glad we can now move on to Day 28!

.....and I just realized the name of this album is NOT "Masseducation"

Wow. I'm just learning things left and right today because of bad album covers.

Day 28: An album that’s full of hope
Esperanza Spalding - Emily's D+Evolution (2016)

Esperanza means hope in Spanish, so it's a very good choice for today.
Man, this album is confusing AF. It's a mindfuck, I'm not used to this kind of music.

(This is another album I could've posted yesterday. That cover is really awful, and the pictures inside are actually good.)

Day 28: An album that’s full of hope

So like them or loathe them U2 have always worn their hearts on the sleeves and were optimistic to the point of naivety , especially in the 80’s. But man they were brilliant , especially live , the two gigs I saw in 85 and 87 are still the best and most uplifting concerts I’ve been to. So Hope for me is synonymous with U2 and Bono.

Day 28: An album that's full of hope

Recorded in the wake of 9/11 and also after 9 fans were killed during their show in Roskilde, there is a sense of anger and sadness in this album, but also hope. Specifically tracks like Love Boat Captain and I Am Mine were signs that the band were dealing with the current reality but also using their art as a cathartic element to keep growing and moving.

"I know it's already been sung...can't be said enough/Love is all you need..all you need is love.."

Day 28: An album that’s full of hope

Stevie Wonder ‎– Songs In The Key Of Life (Motown, 1976 First UK Pressing)

Not much really needs to be said about this album, I imagine its pretty unanimous that its a masterpiece in writing and music. The themes covered here (with the assistance of over 130 musicians) are everything associated with life, with the overriding feeling of hope, the lows ending with highs, etc. It's an album which I only fully appreciated years after first hearing it and its always a pleasure when it gets played, I always feel happier after a full listen.

Day 28: Hope
Bruce Springsteen & The E St. Band / The Rising
So the story goes that right after 9/11 a guy in a passing car yelled at Springsteen “Hey Bruce we need you”! Springsteen responded with this record. It’s inspired and definitely hopeful. Might be my favorite Springsteen record and that’s saying something.938A7AAC-BB95-4A77-92ED-C01D786BDE2E.jpeg

Catching up with this one...

Day 27: Least Favourite Album Cover

Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band - Like a Rock

View attachment 49394

There may be records in my collection with much more offensive artwork (“may” being the key word) but this is one of the lamest album covers I’ve ever seen.
I didn't know Farrah Fawcett was part of The Silver Bullet Band.

Day 28: An album that’s full of hope

If "all hope is gone" then we can only go up from here - so this is really a happy album.

.....and I just realized the name of this album is NOT "Masseducation"

Wow. I'm just learning things left and right today because of bad album covers.

Which is why she named the other version Mass Education - people were mispronouncing the name of Masseduction - which is a little odd, as it's the name/lyric to a song.
