Metal!

New Chat Pile soundtrack:

The band comments, “The music we made for Tenkiller is quite a bit different than what you may come to expect from us. We were given the freedom to really experiment and explore territories that we’ve never done before.” They continue, “It’s not going to be for everyone, but we hope some of you connect with what we set out to do.”

@avecigrec, check this out when you have a minute. The description of the project caught my eye and the first track I heard I liked, but just finished all three available and thought one of them was meh, so idk.

"The debut album "Sanguinare Vampiris” is the completion of poetry & song that was written during the past two pandemic years.

Inspired by the English poets of the romantic era, lyrical themes explore the naked diary of a vampire, and while musically a bleak conjunction between 90's black- and doom metal, the harmonic teachings of classical musical theory also have a certain impact.
With influences reaching from Summoning to My Dying Bride, DER TRAUERSCHWAN provides a unique blend of somber doom- and black metal, with vampiric-themed lyrics expressed through hauntings ongwriting. "

The mix is shit, as is to be expected with them for the last 20 years, but the song itself is alright. Idk why the biggest band in metal can't set its instrument volunes for shit. They need to hit up Power Trip or something for tips.
At least they got some drum triggers for Ol' Lars. Really tightened up the rhythm.

Honestly "just kinda shitty" is way better than the poor choices made since justice (no bass), tba/load/reload (no thrash), st anger (no solos and that fucking snare), lulu (calling it metallica was the fuck up). They're getting better at hitting their strengths, it just took decades of trying everything else first.

I love the riffage, it’s fantastic and I also wish they dialed back the vocals in the mix quite a bit especially since lyrically, “Lux Aeterna” (sounds like the name of a knockoff Dyson vacuum cleaner) is almost laughably bad.

Also, while I'm briefly hating on one of my favorite bands, I love that they finally went to Rick Rubin to try to get their groove back after trying literally everything else and his advice was basically "why don't you try doing what you did when you didn't suck?" And they did death magnetic with that old album formula.*

* (Thrash opener with a mellow intro, title track is second song, instrumental in the second half usually penultimate, the hardest/ fastest song is the closer. Real quick did I just describe ride, puppets, justice or death magnetic? The answer is yes.)
