Metal!

Finally checked out the new 'tallica... punchy but not too compelling for me. The -ation rhymes wear thin quickly.

I was thinking about bailing about half way through, but I kept on til the end. They have to do what they can to keep the brand/band going.
Give them credit for not giving up, but what else are they gonna do? It must be challenging to keep a thrash metal band going for all this time, through changing trends and fickle fans and an easily distracted public.

Have to flash back to the Napster Bad! days of early interwebs... CampChaos was so fun.

FIRE BAD!

St Anger better than Lightning???
This is rage bait and I refuse to take it.

9. Anger
8. Reload
7. Load
6. Magnetic
5. Black album
4. Kill em all
3. Lightning
2. Puppets
1. Justice

Get that people don't like the mixing on Justice, but it's probably my fav of their's front to back. Their best-written songs.

Never listened to hardwired all the way through, but what i did hear i liked more than anything on those last 3.

Also it's not the 90s anymore and it's safe to admit the black album is good.

Alright, my ranking....

To be fair, I've never listened to Load or Reload, Hardwired played a few songs, played St Anger once.

1. Justice - it was my gateway to Metallica, so it holds a special place for me. Plus it kicks ass.
2. Puppets - I remember I used to see the kids in high school wearing the Puppets shirts. They scared me.
3. Lightning - Fade To Black might be their best song
4. Magnetic - When I first put the CD in, I remember thinking "this is more like it".
5. Black Album - I hated Metallica for selling out when they released it (I know I know). Now it's mostly good. Still hate Nothing Else Matters.
6. Kill 'Em All - Yeah it was groundbreaking, and I get it's importance, but just doesn't quite do it for me.
7. Lulu - Love Lou Reed, love Metallica, but together it's a mess. It's a interesting listen for me, but more as a curiosity, not because it's actually any good.

Agree with all of this. Rage bait/idiotic ranking. I might swap 4 and 5. And I agree with @Sonicpharmacist on Lulu. It's up in the air for me if that or St. Anger is worse. And it's not a studio album and I'd understand those who vehemently disagree, but I think S&M is the only album of theirs I really reach for these days.

It's OK. Death Magnetic is better. My list is like yours with justice/puppets switched and magnetic/black switched. I'd put hardwired after black album. hardwired is OK but the lack of kirk's writing really does make it kind of monotone. (not as monotone as lou reed's singing or st anger's lack of solos, but still)

What, no Lulu?

Anyway, this is exactly how I feel about the top 5 as well. I gave up at the Black Album myself at the time and never went back until about three months ago at my wife's urging. I admit that it is a good record. New song is meh.

But what about that Dream Unending record? Hot damn is it fantastic! It's been an amazing year for metal.

I revisit some of the older releases all the time...so my list changes on occasion.

1. Master: Battery is on the short list of All Time Side 1/Track 1 songs
2. Justice: I sometimes have this as #1 because Harvester is my favorite song of theirs and then it also has One and Shortest Straw
3. Ride:This was my intro to Metallica and Creeping Death rules.
4. S/T: Enter Sandman is Metallica's Impossible Germany - but Sad but True and Through the Never get me going every-time
5. Kill Em All: Based on the Live presentation because the album production is shite - but Whiplash and Seek & Destroy kill it.
6. Garage, Inc.: Tuesdays Gone, Whiskey in the Jar, Turn the Page - I mean come on!
7. Load: Ain't My Bitch and 2x4 are pretty great I dont care what Newstead thinks about the haircuts or cover art
8. Magnetic: I'm not as attached to these songs...other than All Nightmare long.
9. St. Anger: If i could get past the drum sound, I would probably rank this higher based on the attack this album has from top to bottom
10. Reload: Fuel is kind of sneaky great...otherwise the rest of the songs never really grabbed me
11. Hardwired: still getting to know this one
12. Lulu: I didn't need Lou Reed to confirm Metallica's greatness in the great pantheon of rock - I appreciate this album - but its the last one I'm reaching for to scratch the thrash/metal itch.
13. S&M 1 and 2: I didn't need the SF Orchestra to confirm Metallica's musicianship and song writing bona fides. But if it gets your Grandma to listen to Metallica with you then I'm all for it.
