So I've gotten back into metal lately for the first time in 20 years. Boy, there's a lot of different kinds now lol. Top tens of the year from you experts for me to dig into please.
Genre doesn't matter but please put it in ( ) so I can expand my knowledge.
Cool, thanks. When I saw Chat Pile I thought 'arent they punk?' then I realized I'd been listening to The ChatsAs someone just starting to expand my metallic knowledge and tastes the past couple of years, my two favourites have been God's Country by Chat Pile and Zeal & Ardor's self-titled third album.
I also love the Instrumentality of Wake's Thought Form Descent but am still working on coming around to the vocals.
In addition to publication and N&G recommendations, I go through the New Releases section of Album of the Year every week.Just for reference my metal record collection post 90's is
Ripped to Shreds - Nubian
Daeva - Through sheer will and Black Magic
Both of which I found by wading through Spotify, Reddit and Angry Metal Guy.
Sigh, Spirit Adrift, Khemis, Ghost, Blut Aus Nord, Hippy Death Cult, and Acid Mammoth are some of my most listened to and loved this year.So I've gotten back into metal lately for the first time in 20 years. Instead of a “Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac” you saw a Metallica Sticker on a Suburban…Yesterday I was behind a big black Suburban and I noticed the rear window had a Metallica sticker in the upper left corner and the Black Album snake in the bottom right... then I saw the vanity plate- BLKALBM. So apparently someone out there really, really likes that one.
That jazz breakdown, though...
This is wild. Apparently a one-person band, too. Incredibly interesting soundscape, super brutal. Thanks for the share!
Helluva ride!
