I watched CODA last night, fantastic film! My favorite of the Oscar nominees that I've seen so far (though I've only seen 5 of the 10)

pretty good documentary here, available in many places under a couple different names that gets to gist of things

We watched it after the Super Bowl, it was cute, whether or not Oscar worthy would be subjective imho We had a great music teacher like that when I was in high school as well. When I told him I joined the service I could see the dispointment in his eyes

I went in with no expectations and it held my attention from beginning to end.

I've only seen 5 of the 10 Oscar nominated films but here's my ratings:
1. CODA
2. King Richard
3. Don't Look Up
4. Dune
5. The Power of the Dog

Best Picture noms ranked:

1. Drive My Car (9/10)
2. Power of the Dog (8.5/10)
3. West Side Story (8/10)
4. Licorice Pizza (7.5/10)
5. CODA (7/10)
6. Dune (7/10)
7. King Richard (5.5/10)
8. Belfast (5/10)
9. Don't Look Up (3/10)

Haven't seen Nightmare Alley yet, though it does seem like something I would enjoy. Thankful I don't have to include House of Gucci or Being the Ricardos here.

Power of the Dog has it in the bag.
Saw Nightmare Alley. It was okay! Entertaining enough and great to look at, but way too long, and missing some flavor. Mid Del Toro. Would easily swap it out of BP for Lost Daughter or TWPitW.

Final BP ranking:

1. Drive My Car (9/10)
2. Power of the Dog (8.5/10)
3. West Side Story (8/10)
4. Licorice Pizza (7.5/10)
5. CODA (7/10)
6. Dune (7/10)
7. Nightmare Alley (6/10)
8. King Richard (5.5/10)
9. Belfast (5/10)
10. Don't Look Up (3/10)

Well hopefully Criterion picks up The Tragedy of Macbeth for a physical release or something because I've been trying all night to get a free trial for Apple TV to work to no avail. So fucking frustrating.
