Movies

To me, Guardians is when the MCU got good. Before that, Phase 1 and pre-Guardians Phase 2 was mostly "serious" with a pinch of Downey sarcasm, but Guardians and then Ant Man signaled the more jokey, self-aware version of the MCU, which makes all the explosions and fighting tolerable.
Okay, I am feeling better about getting into this. The amount of fighting + explosions is testing my little art film heart.

They're all a better watch than the Captain Americas and The Thors.
Nah, Capt America is the best run of original movies. The First Avenger is the worst of the 3 but still really good because it’s a period piece and he battles Nazis, Thor: Ragnorak is the best individual movie of all the original ones but the second Thor movie is fucking boring and might be the worst so they even out. The amount of enjoyment you get out of the Iron Man movies is dependent on how much you enjoy Robert Downing Jr. at his most Robert Downing Jr-ist.

I think I'd lean toward liking Thor: Ragnarok the best too. But a lot of them tie for me. I'd agree that Iron Man 2 was near the bottom. I haven't seen Eternals yet, but even friends who diehard loved them all didn't like that one. I think Age of Ultron was also kinda near the bottom for me.

I watched the new Ghostbusters over the weekend and I think I might be the only one that thinks the films got better rather than worse.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife > Ghostbusters II > Ghostbusters

Anyone?
If this isn’t a joke, you need to take this shit over to the Hot Take Thread so I can berate you for your terrible taste for the next several days. Also your opinions of anything from this point for are now rendered moot.

May god have mercy on your soul.

I'll at least say that I enjoyed moments of Afterlife, but with many parts that felt deeply antagonistic as if they were just there to piss me off.

The First Avenger is my favorite of the three and probably one of my top three MCU movies. 👀
I have no qualms with that. The biggest issue I have with it is that it’s an origin story which always tends to eat up a good about of the run time. The rest of the movie is very good. I just absolutely love the action sequences in the the two sequels.

I still say Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is among the best MCU movies for me and one of the few I can watch disconnected from the rest of the franchise just as a solid movie of its own. The rest of them range from pretty good to average with a couple good and bad outliers sprinkled in there. I generally agree with the Scorsese quote about MCU movies basically just being theme park rides, but I also fail to see why that's a bad thing for a blockbuster to be.

Nothing is wrong with Aftetlife other than the fact that it is completely unnecessary. I if fine but the Original Ghostbusters film is damn near perfect and all the sequels pale in comparison. The second movie is unfairly maligned but is still nowhere near as good as the OG.

I liked the What If where she becomes Captain Britain (or something can't remember) and he becomes an Iron Man-esque guy better than the actual origin story, but that's probably because it wasn't anything new for me so I was a little bored even though I don't think it was bad at all.

That's fair from our perspective as old dudes, but I get that kids today probably wouldn't love the originals as much today as we did when they came out. They didn't need sequels, but it gets parents into things with their kids which can be cool.
