Movies

I mean, Ghostbusters: Afterlife is nearly the same as Ghostbusters. So, if you like the original, why not just enjoy Afterlife for what it is? I'm not saying it's ten times greater than the original. The movies just get slightly more enjoyable. As a franchise, I enjoy Ghostbusters and I would marathon them all again.

I'm sure we can all agree that we don't ever speak of the 2016 release.

i actually enjoyed that one a lot
As did i. Imo it’s better than Ghostbusters II.

Yeah, it was fine. Ghostbuster 2 isn’t a bad film either, I think it was unfairly maligned when compared with the original which is an all-time classic. Afterlife was entertaining enough, I still prefer Ghostbusters II but I think Afterlife is better than I was expecting and is a decent film. Just not an all time great.

I think the second one is my favorite because I'm pretty sure it was the first one I saw in theaters (or possibly first one I saw at all). Most people don't like the ending but I do love Peter McNichol's character, and Vigo.

I thought the new one was just meh.

Thought I would share tonight's viewing. I LOVE old school Jackie Chan & martial arts films. Several years ago I downloaded the complete Jackie Chan collection (which was over 100 I think) and made my way through most of them. Incredibly this is one that slipped by me, which is a surprise considering it also features Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao!

Watching the new Firestarter. About half an hour in and it's not nearly as cheesey as I was expecting. Might actually be good? Lot of time to still go off the rails though.

Edit: Just finished. The first half was better then the second half. There was some development in the first half and then the second half seemed rushed. There's a couple corny lines, but some good 80s weirdness complemented by the soundtrack. Overall worth streaming to me, but not worth paying for. I think the most disappointing thing is that it started to show how it could be done well but then just gave up.

Saw the new Dr Strange. Was pretty bad. Liked the Raimi stuff enough but I think I’m out on non-Taiki marvel stuff. I think it’s how forced/stupid/unfunny the cute little zingers are every five minutes that really take me out of it. But the new Thor trailer looks fun I guess

Watched Heat for the first time tonight, know this is a pretty common opinion, but this thing WHIPPED
Heat fucking rules.

Also, if anyone lives in NYC, the lower Manhattan Alamo Drafthouse has a bunch of classic dvds and vhs to rent (for free). Lots of awesome stuff there that isn’t available for streaming.

Visually appealing, and occasional bursts of great acting, but it'll take another watch to really make a full judgement. On first watch I'd rank it below The VVitch, which is one of my favorite films of the last several years, but still very good. I think my biggest issue is that the characters needed more development. From that standpoint it would have made a much better mini-series than a movie. But the best line in it is when one character asks if an attack where the dead were desecrated "was done by the Christian swine? Their god is a corpse nailed to a tree!"

I couldn't help but laugh at that one.
