Movies

Is it just me, or is Hustle a slightly different version of Sandy Wexler?

Also, it's a fine flick, but if I'm gonna watch a basketball movie for the cameos, I'm gonna watch Uncle Drew. I had fun with that one.

I watched Hustle last night and The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) just now. I prefer Adam's performance in the latter, but Uncut Gems is his best, in my opinion. It looks like they removed that one from Netflix, I'll have to grab it during the next Criterion Collection sale.

Watched my favorite Father's Day movie last night.

I tried to watch Citizen Kane but I fell asleep. Not saying it's bad... just it put me to sleep lol
I'm sure somewhere Orson Welle's appreciates the number one film all time did that. It is long but worth seeing for the philosophical message at the end
which is it's the simple things in life that count at the end

I agree. It's a great movie and is worth watching at least once, if for no other reason than to be able to fully appreciate all the references in The Simpsons "Rosebud" episode,

I think I'll try again at some point. The pacing just feels so disjointed. Like so much is happening and seem so inconsequential. I remember that Simpsons scene!

Quick reviews of movies I've seen recently. I'll discuss if anyone wants to but I'm way behind

Top Gun: Maverick - More fun than a barrel of monkeys with crowds that haven't been in theatres since Tom Cruise had his original face
Dr. Strange - Eh? I'm growing increasingly jaded on needing to watch a ton of TV to understand popcorn movies.
Sonic 2 - I enjoyed it but I also honestly can't remember anything from this movie at all now.
The Lost City - More movies like this please, felt like all the good things of those lighter cheesier 90s and early 00s type of romantic/comedy/action hybrids
Bad Guys - Like Sonic, had fun, can barely remember anything outside of the rock looking like a butt. That was legit funny.
Lightyear - Have lots of thoughts on this, thought it was a good concept not properly explained in advertising and the not executed in the right direction in the theater.
Bob's Burgers - Effing hilarious. They put so many jokes in this thing, just wish there were more songs
Brian and Charles - Absolute joy of a little movie - reminded me a ton of Swiss Army Man

the jurassic world movies have been very bad so i didn't go in to dominion expecting anything better than very bad and that probably made me enjoy it more i guess. i definitely 'liked' it more than fallen kingdom and probably even jurassic world, but it's still a bad movie. pratt/bdh never did anything for me in these movies, but i did feel the og cast held their own here with what they were given, but they were hardly compelling either save for a couple goldblum moments. it's just so disappointing that the jurassic franchise turned into a completely mindless and derivative action series instead of exploring more of the possibilities and horrors of dinosaurs living in the same world as humans. like, the dominion opening scene was great! more of that!

on a different note, next month the alamo drafthouse is showing the old jeff bridges/karen allen starman movie that i probably watched a hundred times on tv when i was a kid and haven't seen since. already bought my tickets.
