Movies

Wonder if someone like Netflix could buy the rights to the movie.
I was hoping for that too since it's already in post and almost done from what I've read, but one of the articles I read this morning on it made it sound like it was so bad with test audiences that they thought it would further hurt the DC brand after the Ezra Miller thing. No clue if there's any truth to that, just what the article claimed.

There is a new Netflix Original movie called "Purple Hearts" that's out now.

I think I'm going to save this one to watch over the weekend with my family when the come to visit / have a beach weekend.

The movie is about an aspiring musician who has diabetes and can't afford her insulin. She schemes and marries a military man about to be deployed for his health insurance. Pure fraud, but then he gets injured and sent home where she has to play wife to prevent the fraud from being discovered. But then they apparently fall for eachother.

While not official, it’s looking more and more like the Flash movie is not going to get released either. Even if it does get released, they’re going to take Ezra Miller out it completely. There’s no way that Warner Bros. can release a movie with him in it at this point.

I was really looking forward to seeing Michael Keaton in the bat suit again, and now all three of his filmed appearances are likely going to never see the light of day.

Yeah, MK would have been the best part of that. Flash was always one of my favorites growing up and despite the cheese I like the show and thought Grant Guston was decent. I didn't really care for EM in the role, but I put that down to Justice League being mostly a hot mess rather than just on them. At this point I say skip Barry and bring on Wally or Bart, or go old school and do Jay Garrick.

Theatrical JL was a nightmare, but I really, really enjoyed the Snyder Cut. Aside from all of the external studio drama around it, it was simply a much, much better put together film.

Finally watched it and knew exactly what it was when the feather appears. Kinda disappointed he didn't meet Elvis and four sitting presidents, but I guess something gets lost in adaptation.
There's a recurring bit on the Blank Check podcast specifically about how you couldn't make that movie in current times without being sent straight to jail.

And yet...
Someone's getting spaced for this one.

Seems to be a lot of followers of Sikhism in the film so that is likely the root of the custom/purpose:

I thought it was probably a part of that culture I wasn't familiar with. But I wasn't sure because some friends are Sikh and I've never seen that on their son. But they'll probably get a kick out of this trailer so I'll ask them next time I see them.

I've had "Possession" in my watchlist for so long and finally got around to watching it. It's absolutely wild. The actress who plays the wife is fantastic in this. Not exactly an easy watch tho - its pretty intense. Highly recommended if you like oldskool effects in horror a la Cronenberg

The Hollywood Theater in Portland had There Will be Blood in 35mm last night; I was on the fence about going because I've seen that movie so many times, but I'm so glad I went for it. Nearly front row, just let Jonny Greenwood blow my hair back. And while I know that movie inside and out, I think it has been a solid 5-10 years since I've watched it all front-to-back in one sitting. It's interesting to see the filmmaking on this end of PTA's career; you can see hints of a style I like to describe as elliptical, and while he isn't leaning full-Altman in staging large groups of interacting characters, there's an improvisatory feel. I got such a distinct impression that insert shots were the result of days' of catching the same objects/scenery in different lights, or that you're watching the one take of dozens where the camera focuses on a specific actor. Good flippin' film.

I have a pretty much the exact opposite experience - I watched it on a plane! Still enjoyed it, though.
