Movies

Man, I'm getting old. I watched Game Night last night.

I'm not really here to talk about the movie, it's dumb. Don't watch it. I have watched it twice now. Not on purpose, but quite by accident. I was looking for something dumb to watch last night, something that wouldn't take any brain power and might get a chuckle or two. Wasn't really looking for an action flick.

Anyhow, movie starts, no recollection of ever watching it before. Until Jesse Plemons shows up as the creepy cop next door to Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams. I'm like wait, I remember this character. Watched the rest of the movie, I could not have told you one single plot point unless it involved Plemons, I remembered every last detail about this guy's arc. Knew everything that was gonna happen to him and damn near every word that came out of his mouth and he's in less than a quarter of this movie. NONE OF THE REST OF THE MOVIE STRUCK ANY BELLS.

So, I'm left with a few options...

1. There is some other movie where Plemons plays the exact same character and the exact same shit happens to him and he says basically the same shit.

or

2. He was the only memorable thing about the movie. Except it wasn't a great performance. Ed in Fargo was a much more memorable performance.

or

3. Since this movie is only 5 years old, (which excludes watching high, could have been drunk, but wasn't really my MO for movie watching) I must just be losing what little mental faculties I have left. - THIS SEEMS MOST LIKELY.

Love this movie. His line “how can that be profitable for Frito-Lay” is a top ten delivery of all time. Bateman and McAdams have good comedic chemistry IMO.

Nah. This is a great film. My wife and I saw it in theaters.

Plemons is the best part though.

I'll take @Melt Face Molly Drop 's "Love" but this is far from a "Great" film. It's dumb, if you want dumb diversion for an hour and a half - sure, it will do that for you. There is nothing wrong with that all.
It’s better than I thought it would be but also the pendulum swung back too far the other way and the word-of-mouth after it’s release was so glowing that it couldn’t have ever lived up to the hype.

It’s a movie that woulda been great to catch on FX or TBS on a weekend afternoon while channel surfing. It’s low stakes, has a great cast and is kinda funny. I would never actively choose to watch it again but if I stumbled across it I might leave it on for a bit.

I put it the same group as any R rated comedy that proves to not be entirely mindless and a nice escape. We’re The Millers is another.

Your opinion here is so wrong. It's a great film, one of the best comedies of the last 10 years and definitely rewatchable. Rachel McAdams is throwing heat the entire movie.
