Movies

Nah you're not the only one. The fact that it's one half of a movie, and the mile-a-minute nonstop references and jokes kinda dampen the emotional effect. Not as good as the first but the entertainment value and animation still make it great.
I adored it but I can get feeling overwhelmed.

Saw Lost Highway for the first time last night. It felt like the perfect amount of Lynchian weirdness without taking me completely out of the plot (unlike Twin Peaks The Return Episode 8 which IMO is the weirdest thing ever put to television). Robert Blake as The Mystery Man is an example of pristine casting.

In a way it felt like a prelude to Mulholland Drive, which is a favorite of mine. What’s so unsettling is how he’s able to root things in reality and rip the rug from underneath when we least expect it.

I just watched Blue Velvet for the first time recently, and am sort of getting primed to tackle Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive. Inland Empire…one day.

Full agree on everything you wrote here.

I should rewatch Lost Highway, it's been a few years. I go back to Mulholland Drive regularly, but other than Twin Peaks I haven't done a rewatch of any others in years.

They're all great, but Mulholland is probably my favorite out of all of them. Great culmination of everything he's good at. Lost Highway wasn't my fav mainly because it feels like a prelude to Mulholland (which I had seen first). Inland Empire I watched on a stormy night, ready to get to bed and a little nauseated, which I can't recommend and also can't recommend enough.

This was fun. I really hope they release the soundtrack, it's a great comp.

Saw you started a ranked Chan-wook list! Plan on getting to The Handmaiden soon? It's astonishing.
I'm slowly working my way through the filmography! Lady Vengeance is next since that, Decision to Leave, and Sympathy for Mr Vengeance are all on Mubi.

I'm still a Bong guy, but it's hard not to admire Park's technical proficiency and general audacity.

Vengeance Series all a good watch. Decision to Leave if fantastic too. I'm also working on watching his other stuff as well

I finally saw Across the Spiderverse.

Maybe it's just me, but I found the pedal-to-the-metal pacing waaay to fast and I was missing stuff left and right. Characters would just be introduced, say an incomprehensible line, and be gone in the span of two seconds. Felt like I was watching the film at double speed....and it's still almost 2 and a half hours. Am I just getting old?
You are not alone. My kids saw this with my dad and none of them really knew what was going on.
