Incredible movie! Kurosawa mines unbearable tension from long, seemingly uneventful takes. I am excited to finally watch my shiny new Criterion copy with a friend tomorrow.

Have you seen Pulse?
What an atmosphere! Dude makes you flinch from a glass of water. And the one scene (you know the one) got me so good, it's currently branded on my brain.

I haven't! May have to make that next (after something happy maybe)

Definitely check it out. Cure is credited with being a sort of precursor to the J-horror boom — Pulse, by comparison, is fully of that moment, but Kurosawa again imbues it with an intense sense of dread. It’s only improved in my estimation since I first saw it.

Starting the World Cinema Project Vol. 2 i got 18 months ago lol I will probably never see the films in Vol. 1 because 5/6 films had animal cruelty to various degrees (Dry Summer and Touki Bouki being the worst). So of course the first film in Vol. 2, Insiang, starts with pigs being slaughtered in a slaughterhouse. Fortunately there was no more after that. Very good film btw.
