The Killer was extremely well made, but that’s kind of the baseline for Fincher. Can’t say it worked that well for me as a whole – the movie’s amorality was not quite fun enough to make up for how nihilistic the whole thing felt. Maybe that’s the point?
It basically feels like it was written to undercut the philosophical assassin tropes laid out in, like, Le Samourai, but the protagonist is too cool and the world around him is not quite absurd enough for it to really land that way. The humor is there, but it requires work on the audience's part.I mean, say what you will about the tenets of Hannibal Lecter as a serial killer, dude, at least he had an ethos.
Can't agree with this one. Really great film but these two performances don't top a few from each actor's catalog.Career bests from all the leads.
I don't necessarily mean THE best from each (apart from Gladstone) but i could argue top top 5-10 for Leo and De Niro. Can't agree with this one. Really great film but these two performances don't top a few from each actor's catalog.
Go see it in theaters. It's worth seeing on the big screen and it's worth supporting more adult films aimed at adults being made. When does Flowers of the Killer Moon get released on Apple TV? I thought it was this month, but today I noticed it says "Currently in Theaters" and "Coming at a later date" being listed on it rather than coming in November.
What I found weird was it felt like his actions often clearly subverted the rules in his voiceover, but he mostly got away with all the mistakes he made? I mean, zoom out and it’s basically a movie about a guy who kills a bunch of people because he fucked up and couldn’t follow his own program. But…the program got him through in the end. All in all, a very well-made movie, but I fall somewhere between the people who think this is a brilliant meta-exercise for Fincher and a by-the-numbers thriller. It basically feels like it was written to undercut the philosophical assassin tropes laid out in, like, Le Samourai, but the protagonist is too cool and the world around him is not quite absurd enough for it to really land that way. Yeah, exactly. I think Fincher mines plenty of dark humor from the fact that the Killer is a control freak but things never actually go to plan - once he begins his mantra, he’s inevitably interrupted by some complication he didn’t anticipate. Yet he keeps waxing philosophical. What I found weird was it felt like his actions often clearly subverted the rules in his voiceover, but he mostly got away with all the mistakes he made? I've watched a lot of bad / WTF movies this weekend - Bottoms, A Haunting in Venice, Fingernails, Quiz Lady. Not sure I'd recommend any of them.
Bottoms was probably the best of the bunch but I was still expecting so much more from that cast.My wife saw Bottoms in theaters and loved it. I've been waiting to watch it with her at home.
