Just caught The Substance.

When I say y'all are not ready for this one...

Saw it in a packed and rowdy theater last night. Unforgettable experience and my favorite horror film since Hereditary (unless we are counting I Saw the TV Glow as one). Demi Moore puts on a fearless performance, the script is wild and the film is as visually stunning as Margaret Qualley is beautiful. Kubrick & Cronenberg would approve.

Yea, already feel it's in the body horror pantheon. Wish my theater was more full, it was just me and my friend audibly sounding disgusted in the company of a few others.

i saw the Substance Wednesday night with so much freaking junk food on my lap (im talking personal pizza, doritos, ice cream sandwich, etc), because… you know, 8 o clock, dinner time 😝

when the scene came up where Moore’s character is rage-cooking and stuffing her face, could not help but feel like the Leo pointing at screen meme.

Side note, during all this convo about the Substance, I realized yesterday that its director is the same (French) woman who crafted Revenge... which sits next to Blue Ruin as one of the best revenge films of the 2010's. Highly recommend finding a way to watch it if you're a fan of violent, stylish films that bend the border between thriller and horror (ala Green Room).

(Just beware that the trailer gives away thr whole fucking movie and that it is essentially a rape revenge film).

Speaking of Jeremy Saulnier, I finally found a way to watch Rebel Ridge without giving Netflix my cash. After I watch it, I'll update my tier 2024 films list here.
