I was actually kind of shocked no one guessed any Radiohead albums given they’re probably my favourite band and In Rainbows is one of my all time favourite albums and was released this millennium along with 5 other albums of theirs! Haha!

Don't blame me, I've been all behind Bloc Party! I am as kind of shocked as you are for not picking Bloc Party. I almost hate you for that but The Gloaming are really, really good so I forgive you.

I didn't only because Radiohead, as much as we love them, doesn't really need any more exposure than they already have (same with Bloc Party imo)

Radiohead certainly don’t. But then I do love them haha! It’s hard to say which is the hidden album that needs exposing though! Maybe Amnesiac? But then I’m not as passionate about it as I am some of the others.

Silent Alarm probably doesn’t but Bloc Party sure did tail off after it and if A Weekend in the City had better availability it’s would have definitely been a good way to go.

Yeah I guess I should revise that - I could hear the argument that Bloc Party as a whole are an underrated band but Silent Alarm, one of the most acclaimed indie rock albums of the 2000s, certainly isn't.

With Radiohead maybe you could have picked something a bit lesser known like The Eraser? The only problem is any Radiohead fans on the forum probably already know about and own that album and I highly doubt anyone who isn't a fan of Radiohead would feel any differently about Yorke solo.

Edit: or one of the Philip Selway solo albums?

Definitely! Someone is going to have to end up going to a big act again and pick an undervalued album. I’m guessing though that it’ll be a legacy act to have allowed for the album to have got a little lost and to need to be uncovered again. A bit like @Murfocakes and the Lou Reed album he picked.

I agree, the Lou Reed pick was super interesting! I'd love to see someone introduce us to another album like that, a great album by a somewhat household name that's drifted into obscurity. The only bad thing is so many projects like that probably aren't really widely available on vinyl anymore.

I think vinyl availability is really the driving force behind this decade’s strong representation as picks. We can’t decide to make a “first vinyl pressing” of an important but maybe forgotten album from the past. We can only select what is actually for sale and that’s available in relatively large quantities. The albums that are being repressed are going to be the bigger ones or at least from popular artists with a reissued whole catalogue. So far the pickers have wanted to highlight overlooked or less widely popular stuff in order to introduce them to a wider audience. That’s going to have an effect of the skewing the selections towards more recent releases.

I think there is an element of truth to that, although it was much more of a truth 6 or 7 years ago when I started collecting, I’m noticing a lot more less huge stuff being available. One of the issues I see actually is more that say I look at an 80s uk post punk album that I love. although it’s obscure I can probably easily get plenty of copies of it. Similar for you with an American 80s college rock band. Me getting yours and you getting mine is likely a pain in the arse or big postage costs. I’ve banged the drum on this a few times but just because it’s true, with our spread worldwide availability is almost more important than just availability!
